Could someone tell me what this fish is like. I've never had it, and would really like to try it, but would like to be prepared. I just recently started eating more fish and seafood. The kinds of fish I had are Salmon, Talapia, Flounder, Sole, Tuna. Is it anything like any of the above? Thanks. :)

Mahi Mahi has a very mild, slightly sweet flavor. Out of the ones you mentioned, I've only had salmon and tuna (NOT out of a can thankyouverymuch :lmao: ) and I'd say the flavor is much more mild than those two. I really like it.

My DD25 isn't a big fish eater, but she likes Mahi Mahi. The Flying Fish does a really wonderful Mahi Mahi dish that she enjoys. Like the above poster said, it's a mild fish that doesn't have that strong "fishy" taste. To give you an idea, other fish my non-fish eating DD will eat are Tilapia, Grouper, Flounder and Snapper - all very mild white fish.

Thanks, it sounds like something I might like. DH doesn't eat fish at all, so we never go out to seafood restaurants. The regular restaurants usually have salmon as their fish choice. When we go back to WDW in December we have ADRs at Coral Reef and Kona, and they both have Mahi Mahi on their menu, so I will try it then. Thanks again. :)

Ok You HAVE TO TRY THE KONA MACADAMIA MAHI MAHI!! I am screaming that one! It is my favorite dish at Disney and I had it twice in July it's that good. It is a mild fish served with a mushroom risotto with some crunchy onions on top- and some baby bok Choy. I would say texture wise it is closest to swordfish which isn't on your list hmmmm. Firmer than the Tilapia, Sole, Flounder but mild in taste like them. I think you will like it! Much better at Kona than at The Coral Reef. Oh and if your DH is a steak lover he has to try the Steak Teriyaki(sorry about the spelling) That is my next favorite and DH loves it! oh oh and try the Sand in Your Pants drink(it is a pina colada with a strawberry daquiri on top- sounds gross but yum yum)

We ate at Kona last week and I had the mahi-mahi there. It's great! Mahi-mahi is a very mild light colored fish probably somewhat close to tilapia but better I think. Kona's is outstanding, cooked to perfection, and just great.

I'm following this thread because this fish was mentioned on the show "King of Queens"! Carrie said it takes like steak and of course, Doug was very happy to hear that! I'm sure it doesn't taste like steak but she was just trying to get him to eat healthy...but I must admit it did give me the interest in trying it someday.

I'm not a big fish person (just don't know much about fish in general) but I think I'll give this a try. The one at Kona's sounds yummy!

Funny you should mention King of Queens. DH and I were just starting to explore fish when we saw that episode. Doug says something like, "Mahi mahi for me-he me-he." DH figured if Doug liked it that he might too. (he was right)

Mahi is great - rather firm and very mild, not fishy tasting at all. I agree that the mahi at Kona is very good.

Ok, it is settled then, I will order Mahi Mahi at Kona. I'm sure DH would love the Beef Teriyaki. And that drink "Sand in your pants" sounds like something I would love. Thanks everyone again.

Another vote for the mahi mahi at Kona. It is great.

I've also recently had it at Coral Seas and it was good there too but I like Kona's version better.

As others have said it is a mild tasting white fish.

:guilty: Mahi-Mahi is dolphin fish. They started calling it Mahi Mahi when it was clear that people weren't gonna buy "dolphin fish", confusing it with dolphins (which are mammals, not fish).

Anyway, like swordfish and shark and tuna, you shouldn't eat it when you're pregnant and kids shouldn't eat this type of fish more than once per week.(according to most medical advice anyway).

Hi
I'm not a fish eater, except for flounder, but Mahi Mahi is delicious. I had it about 4 hours after it was caught off of Key Largo in the Keys and it was the best fish I ever had. I was afraid to try it at first, but was glad I did. It doesn't taste fishy at all, and I wouldn't even known it was fish, if I didn't know my DH and DS had caught them. If you like flounder, you'll probably like it. Enjoy!!

I am also not a fish eater, I eat shrimp, canned tuna, and flounder. I had Mahi Mahi for the first time at the Maya Grill. It was AWESOME!! Try it, you will love it!

I'm a picky fish eater and Mahi Mahi is my favorite.
Seems to be the most popular in Hawaii. I don't like salmon or tuna because it looks raw and not cooked enough. So I usually stick to Mahi Mahi, Halibut or Tilapia.

My husband says it has to be food from the Tiki Gods table. Thats how much he loves the Kona's fish.

I'm very wary of trying new fish, but tried the Kona Mahi Mahi last trip. It was beautiful, and the rissotto with it all added to the whole experience.

Mahi is a great fish to have folks that don't like or usually don't like fish eat. It is very mild. It is great blackened or broiled. It is excellent chargrilled as well.
