I was able to snag 2, 20th Animal Kingdom magicbands, activated them and still have the ones I ordered from Disney when I made our reservations. Can I activate the 2, is there a limit on how many we can have in use, I am still not sure how they work.....

Yes you can use them all. At a certain point your account will start acting funny because you have so many bands assigned to you. I currently have 5 bands and 3 cards and have no issues with my account. The people who seem to have the problems are those that go many times a year and receive magic bands for each visit.

I have so, so many. I deactivate the old resort ones from a few years ago. I’m a suck for the limited edition bands, so I’ve amassed quite a collection. No issues.

I hear you as with the 20th AK limited to 2K, we LOVE the Animal Kingdom, so it was a no brainer, and they are nice to boot, just hope they last awhile as I read somewhere they typically last 2-5 years depending on the battery in the puck......

The long-range battery will last about 2-3 years or so (essentially just used for some on-ride photos and some rides that have special effects like Small World), the short-range battery will last forever (anything that you touch the MB to - FP, park entry, photopass, room entry, etc)

Some of us started having issues at 20 bands. Not everyone, which was odd, but some of us. Robo had suggested to me that we deactivate some of the oldest bands. After doing that, the issues went away. We now keep about 10 bands active per family member.

They work like a check that can access money from your bank account
Every check gets the same money and you can have all you want

At a certain point a glitch might happen, and on the accounts that have many bands the CMs will tell you it’s because of the bands.

On accounts with few bands they'll tell you something else.

They basically just jiggle the handle, so to speak, of the account. Deactivate a band, re-enter some info, etc. Jiggling the handle usually gets things working again.

But not everyone has that issue. That’s because it’s a glitch, not something truly caused by many bands. If it were caused by the bands, then all of us with many bands would have the problem.

The nice thing about the MB 2.0 is that you can change out the puck in a special band (put the puck from a new band in) when the original gets to be too old. So you can still use your special band without worrying that you’ll miss your SDMT photo, etc.

There is only one battery in a MB and that's for the long range transmitter. When a MB is used at a touch point, the touch point provides the necessary power to read the MB.

Yes, that's pretty much what I meant, thanks! Mostly was wanting to say that most functions will work indefinitely.

I have 25 magicbands on my account and have never had an issue.

20+ wow, you guys are hardcore!!!

Thanks for the info as I was just not sure how these things really work and if the non-replaceable battery is the downfall for them. Sounds like it is a micro chip in them and that could be very well used indefinitely...

I have 15 or so magic bands on my account. I always deactivate/mark as lost the ones I'm not taking, so I only have two active at a time.

I have 34 MBs on my account and 18 cards, plus nearly equal amounts for 2 older kids and my DH, and a few for my 2 yr old toddlers. Our MBs do get wonky when we are there, and when bringing up that section on MDE. I have all but 2-4 for each person marked as inactive, but we still usually have to spend a lot of time at the concierge desk getting the ones we want to use for that trip to work on the room, charging, tickets, elevators, etc. We have been told by a few CMs that you are only "supposed" to have 1 MB per person, but that's complete crap. When they tell me that I ask why Disney sells so many special ones, because they clearly don't want people buying one and never any more. They really can't answer that question. One time we were told something that made a little more sense, but I don't know IT so it might not make sense to people who do. They told my DH that everything you do in MDE is like a single "hit", and the more you have the more difficult it is for all of the programs to work, and work together (lots of paraphrasing and my interpretation there). So every ADR made, every ADR cancelled, every FP made, every FP changed, every MB, ever room reservation, etc. If that's the case we do have a TON, because I make and cancel LOTS of ADRS both before and during a trip, we have had quite a few stays and sometimes have changed resorts prior to the actual stay, do split stays, use refresh for FPe, etc. So if that's the case we do have a TON of "hits: on our account. But as much as we have, from reading here I know of plenty of people on these boards that would have more on their accounts, and they don't all have problems. So who knows.

FWIW, back to your original post, having 2 each should not be a problem at all. Even with Disney's system I don't think 2 per person could mess it up.
