MagicBand testing

Just an observation-I'm staying at Jambo right now, one of the test resorts, and only about half the guests are wearing MB. I'd think that at a test resort, virtually everyone would be wearing one. On the DME on the way here, a woman told me "Yeah, we got some kind of letter about some test thingie, but I don't know what it was." I'm not sure how Disney guests will deal with the actuality.

Isn't participation in the Magic Bands test on a voluntary basis? Even though guests have been invited to participate, I don't think there is anything that forces them to use Magic Bands at this time. Also, there may be guests with Magic Bands that choose not to wear them, or at least not all the time.

OMG..I just got an e-mail inviting me to participate! We have our bands and are set!

Congrats!!! I want one too! Not much hope though as our trip starts in 2 weeks. I've linked everything through My Disney Experience.....still nothing for the bands!!!! Ugh, I need to stop focusing on it and just let it be. :goodvibes

I got my email yesterday and we already as well have our bands and the second set ships tomorrow and we should have by Tuesday. The thing that really annoys me is it says the customization has to be done by 9/22. Well that's not true since the MDE told me for the first set it had to be dine by last Sunday and today for set two.

Ok...I had no idea you needed an "invitation." I am participating in a Disboards Gamers meet in October at DVC. Some participants began talking about FP+s and Magic Bands about 2 weeks ago, and I got the word from Disboards that BVC was anticipating, so I went on MDE and signed myself up! The glitch I had with DH was that he was added later to the reservation.

So, if you are staying in a resort that is trying out the FP +, do you have a link in MDE for them? I did!

You don't need an invitation and I'm surprised they are still wasting all this money on ups overnight mailings to send the letters. Everyone staying at a participating resort is in the test. If they don't send a letter it is because they sent it to your address on file which can easily be an incorrect or old address.

It is very important that everyone checks the mailing address when customizing bands to ensure it goes to the right address.

At WDW now and part of the test. So far it has been great. We really like the fact that we are not having to get into the parks early to beat the crowds and get fastpasses for hours later.

One of the more relaxing park experiences in years.

Talked to a CM who is heavily involved with the program. This started 8 years ago when the previous head of parks read an article from a mom who visited with her children during the summer. The average visitor does want to run around collecting fastpasses or standing in line for hours.

This is going to be a huge success for families who only occasionally visit and aren't as obsessed as most of us on the boards. I suspect Walt would be proud that Disney that this will help many parents.

Yes you are right. It is all voluntary.

You can get a Magic Band even if one decides not to participate in Fastpass+

Also if you do not want a magic band you will be given a RFID resort ID card.

It is not necessary to wear the band for it to work, only more convenient.

I have to say, so far, I am very impressed with the FP+/MagicBand process. We are heading down to WDW in 3 weeks and spending the first night at AOA followed by six nights at OKW. I got the MB's because of our AOA stay but was able to put our PAP's on the MB and make FP ressies for the entire week. It was so nice to just go through each day and schedule our FP's already. No more racing across Epcot or HS at rope drop to get Soarin or TSM FP's. It will just make the trip so much more relaxing. I know it takes away some of the spontaneity but I'm ready to give that up for a more relaxing visit.

Yes, I agree and was not looking forward to fighting the crowds first thing at HS trying to get a FP for Toy Story. We were there once and the crowd was so crazy that they knocked over a stroller WITH the child in it and kept moving to get a FP not even bothering to check the family they had knocked over.

One suggestion that I'd make is that if I only schedule two things at Epcot, then I should be able to schedule something later or earlier at another park. Instead of "giving" me a suggestion, I'd like to save that for use at another park since we hop often.

Just got a UPS Express Envelope yesterday asking if I would like to participate in the testing of MyMagic + during out upcoming trip starting October 6th thru the 27th. Would like to see if our kids get the same request since there stay starts on the 18th. Have not made up our mind yet.

If they are at a testing resort they just need to log onto the website and they should have the option to do this too. All ppl staying at participating resorts are part of the test.

For people who are getting invites, where are you staying? The same testing resorts or something new?

The invites are just a formality. Anyone staying at any of the testing resorts may participate. They have not added any new resorts to the list for October other than those already mentioned. Hopefully, if testing continues into November, more resorts will be added then.

Thanks :). I already know which resorts are testing, so that's why I was asking where they were staying to see if something had changed. I guess not everyone logs into MDE daily to see if their status has changed (guilty) which is why they are sending the letters .

Staying at SSR in November as our first ever DVC stay (new member). I may be getting ahead of myself since SSR isn't a test resort yet, but I'm thinking it might be by November (or the whole system might even be live). Anyways, before hereing about all this magic band/fastpass+ stuff I was planning to buy annual passes once we get to the park on the first day. Now I'm not sure because I wouldn't be able to schedule any fastpass+ stuff until I have tickets, correct?

I think I read earlier in this thread that someone said they were able to link a voucher to their stay in MDE and then could do the fastpass stuff. Can that be confirmed? Does that mean if I go to MDE and buy fastpasses now I will receive vouchers in the mail, I can link the vouchers to the trip, schedule my fastpasses and then activate the passes once we get there in November?

This is all assuming SSR is even chosen by then (I'm optimistic). :)

I was able to link DS's AP voucher to his MDE profile. You will need to use a smartphone to scan it in.

And yes, you will be able to do this (make sure you buy them with the DVC discount!)...if...

This is all assuming SSR is even chosen by then (I'm optimistic). :)

This! :)

I heard from people at CSR and WL that they can make FP+ for October, can't customize bands yet.
