MagicBand Room Issues

Just returned from a very short trip to attend the 24 hour party. Everything was great except one little snag.

I have 4 MagicBands and use them interchangeably. Two of my MagicBands worked flawlessly but one of them let me enter the parks, make purchases, use FPs, pull up reservation info at the front desk, everything. Then I tried to enter my room with it and I kept getting nothing but a blinking red light.

Apparently, the system that handles room entry is different. My band was deactivated in this system, but it worked everywhere else. Not sure how it got deactivated. I've never deactivated it, haven't hit the maximum number of bands in MDE, the band shows up as active in MDE, and like I said I used it to do everything that day.

Long story short, make sure to test out your MagicBand on your room door before leaving your room. I wish I could get back my 30 minutes waiting outside my hotel room for a CM to open my door.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I was planning on using 3 different ones interchangeably, but I will make sure to test the door with whichever one I have on each day. I appreciate the tip.

You need to use all MBs that you intend to use during a stay to open your resort door as soon as you get to the room for the first time. Open and close and reopen it until you and your party have used all the bands you want to work on that door.

This is what I was told during a recent check in at BLT:

1)Open your room door for the first time with your first Magic Band. (DO NOT CLOSE THE DOOR)

2)While the door is open touch the next Magic Band to the lock and once the lock flashes green that band will be activated to that lock*.

3)Repeat step 2 until every band has touched the locked, then close the door.

This process worked flawlessly for me and I had six bands in my party and I had no problem with any band opening any lock during my stay.

* Just as an FYI, the above process not only unlocks your room door but ALSO activates your band to the pool gate if your resort has one, and also to gain entry into your resort when the doors are locked at night.
