We have a 4 night stay coming up at CR and received our magic bands the other day. We are annual pass holders and it hasn't dawned on me until now but can I link my ap with these new magic bands? I don't want to have to carry two sets of these things around.

Any band you link to your account will be linked to your AP. The resort will link these for you. So all bands you have will work as your park entry (AP). However, I'm told that only the bands you got at the hotel (or mailed to you for the resort) will unlock your room/be your room key. The original bands sent to you for your AP will not unlock your door. You might be able to request this--unknown.

The MB is just another way of linking to your MDE account. It functions exactly the same as your AP. No need to bring the MB at all if you don't want to.

As the previous poster said, the bands just read the information on your account. Any band that is active on your account should be able to be used interchangably for admission, resort, etc. We have 4 sets of bands, 3 from stays and one AP. Ours are all different colors, so we changed based on what we were wearing/doing and I haven't had a problem yet with entering a room or getting into the park with any of the bands.

So your AP band ends up opening the resort doors? This makes sense as all magic bands should open it as it's linked with your account. However, I asked a CM and they said only the ones issued for the resort would. I asked because My wife is not staying with us this trip but will stop by (we're local) to hang at the pool one day. They suggested I give her one of the kids bands that was issued at the resort so she can get in the room. We all have AP bands. I haven't tried it all my other bands for the resort door. So, do all bands linked to your MDE open the door? If so, makes much more sense than the CM suggested. Thanks!

Yes, in fact it does. I've done it more than once. And its not just your AP band that does this; your RFID enabled AP card will work as well.

I stayed at 3 different resorts and had my AP band and they all worked interchangably over two different stays 3 weeks apart. The only issue I see with your scenario is if your wife is not on the room reservation. If she is not on the ressie, then her band should NOT open the room door and she would need someone else's band. However, she could use another band of yours, your kids wouldn't have to give up their current band.
