Magical Southern Caribbean ~ 9/20/14

IMHO, the group on Dis seemed to be "tight" since they all seemed to already know one another and/or have apparently travelled together, whereas FB seemed to be everyone starting from scratch. :confused3

Good Morning, Happy Cruisers!

We signed up for this cruise while on the WBPC this year. Is anyone else going B2B with the WBTA?

I agree! There was a very active facebook group for the WBPC this year, but I felt the group as a whole on the ship was much less "bonded" than previous cruises where there was a "disboards" group. The facebookers aren't all "dis-ers" and I feel the loss of "group identity".

We are two "older than dirt" adults (Bruce & Linda), upstate New York transplanted to Northwest Georgia. No kids traveling with us, but we may have our Teddy Bears. I don't think we'll be doing FE due to weight constraints flying to Europe for the WBTA and home from San Juan.

Happy Day, All.

I too agree that Facebook does change the dynamics of the meets, but nothing stays the same.

I know cruisecritic has banned Facebook links on their meet threads. If there is a drop in readership on the boards here , I would assume the owners would ban Facebook links too.

We are busy wrapping up plans for our cruise. We leave in less than two weeks. No other summer Disney plans. We'll be at WDW for food and wine this fall. How about you?

We are going at the end of August. 6 days at WDW and then a 7 day cruise. Too far for us to go multiple times in a year. Would be nice, but not reality for us.

Welcome aboard, Bruce and Linda. Wish we could do the BTB - someday. This cruise will be the first time we've left both kids at home on their own - so, doing both is not an option for us this time. We are planning on spending a few days in San Juan prior to the cruise.

Our last two cruises - we've gone to the DIS meet, but didn't really know anyone as everyone knew each other from FB. I'm beginning to wonder what's the point of being on the DIS, as everyone just wants to go to FACEBOOK.

We know quite a few people on this meet, because we've cruised previously and it was a very active DIS meet thread.

That's the best idea I've heard yet. Ban FACEBOOK links. They ban the travel agent references / links - so it would be easy to ban FACEBOOK.

We can change things - people who are on FACEBOOK could make a commitment to post here. This is the meet thread after all.

Seriously doubting the DIS will ban FB links. I know the owners of the DISBoards and they are active on FB so I presume they see a benefit there.

I am missing the conversation here, but if it is any consolation, the Facebook group has been just as quiet. I think the quiet right now is caused by the beginning of summer, other plans and trips that will come first. I am not hanging around on the computer like I was when it was cold outside! I am also in the midst of a bunch of turmoil in my own life and a cruise almost a year from now is is still over a year away! I think we will see things pick up as we get closer in.

I would love to do the WBTA before this cruise!

It was great to meet garRy earlier this month in Epcot! I hope to get to "know" many of you before we meet on the Magic!

No plans for the summer, except maybe to move! Oh, and a reunion in Boston in August. I hope to get to F&W in early Nov, and a Western on the Fantasy in Jan to celebrate my big 60!

that's what's up with me,

Karyn

I agree with Karyn. We are over a year from this cruise and things probably won't get busy on here until next year. I am busy on the thread and FB page for my cruise in December, so I am focusing on that one for now.

I also feel that we shouldn't be so critical about what form of social media people use to discuss the cruise. Some are more comfortable with FB and others the Dis. Some like using both (like me). I think everyone should agree to disagree and focus on keeping this thread active and engaging. Just my 2 cents worth.

I just got off the Fantasy. We have been busy planning that trip that something in 2014 is the furthest thing from my mind. Now that it is over when life returns to normal I will start looking into things for it.

I would agree with this, and when a group is established like that it can make folks shy away from joining in whether that is intended or not.

I agree, it is REALLY far out in my opinion. I have multiple other trips between now and then and my energies are focused there. As we start to get close to PIF days, booking windows, that's when it ramps up for me. On our last cruise, the thread and FE didn't pick up till maybe 3 months out and then got nutty.

I couldn't agree more. I am discouraged honestly reading this thread about banning this or that as if the use of another media is threatening or something. I see no reason for people not to use whatever they are comfortable with and for many of us, that could be both forums. I do know that on our Alaska cruise, which had both forums very active, the FB group allowed for a much better documentation of the FE as it allowed for a document to be stored and updated in real time. That was immensely helpful and simply isn't possible in this forum. I think both forums have their place and it shouldn't have to be one or the other. I find I get to know people in different ways, in each.

Good Morning, Happy Cruisers!

We are STILL waiting to close on our new home. Our old one closes on Friday, we've known that for a month. HUD (the seller) can't seem to get their act together to give us a date on the new one. SO we're dog sitting at our friend's house, watching a lot of tv, and marking time.

Last cruise I took way less luggage than ever before - still two suitcases, but light. I'd like to take even less for this b2B. What are your strategies for lightening the load??

I have always managed to travel light because we had to fly. Now that we live in florida I am afraid I am going to pack too much since we will be driving..:scared1:

Good luck with the move, it will all work out but is frustrating none the less. We went through that this past November. Closed on the old house right before Christmas and closed on the new house end of January.

Good luck with the closing. I know how stressful that can be. We might be moving too and I am not looking forward to the whole buying/selling process.
