We will be arriving on a Friday night at 9:15pm. We are going to spend the night in the Hyatt Regioncy in the airport. We plan on taking ME Saturday, probably around 9am. I really would love to just forward our luggage to POR since it probably won't get there til 11pm and we will just be there in the morning. Do the luggage tickets that Disney sends say the time/date for the hotel the guest is staying at. I would just bring a carry on with our change of clothes for the next morning. Thanks for any advise.

I'll start by saying I haven't used DME. However, there was a thread about this several months ago, and the OP was advised not to try it, since the tagged luggage wouldn't match that days reservation, and no one was sure it would actually be matched up with the next days reservation. So, it could potentially go back to the airline, or something else.

The OP was asked to come back to the thread and post what happened. They did, and their luggage arrived just fine on the check in day. But, they arrived after 10:00, so the luggage wasn't seen by the DME luggage people on arrival day, and was probably picked up the next morning. At that point, it was their checkin day, so arrived at the resort. (From what I've read, it may have been delivered to the luggage carousal and then put in the DME area when not claimed).

Not sure what would happen here.

Here's my issue. You are arriving at a time that DME luggage handling is up and functioning. When your bags are off-loaded, the tags will be scanned. It will show that you don't have an active resort reservation, so the bags will be put aside. Now, they may very well be put someplace special and then grabbed first thing in the morning and sent to POR. BUT....it may also very well be that they are put aside and forgotten, for who knows how long.
When you arrive after 10pm, the luggage handling service has stopped for the day, so all tagged bags, whether they have an active resort reservation or not, end up on the public baggage claim carousel. Then, they are taken to a 'unclaimed luggage' area until the next morning when a DME person comes and takes them to the luggage area for sorting by resort. Not sure I want my bags going around and around on the carousel but others have no issue.

If it were me? I would just go get my luggage and take it with me...so much less chance for an issue. Then take it to the bus with you in the morning. I have DME booked for my WDW arrival on Aug 30. However, my plans changed and I'm arriving the day before and heading to US/IoA with my friend. I guess I could take a chance and leave my bag tagged and hope that it got to my WDW resort the next day...but not a chance I'm willing to take.

Hyatt bellhops can take your bags over to DME luggage handling. Makes sense if you'll be arriving at your resort before your room us ready.

Quick question here, did you check to see what you would pay for a night at one of the value resorts the night you arrive? We were originally planning on staying close to the airport and then on a whim checked prices on site and snagged a room for about 100. Sure we'll get in late but seriously here, i know i'm NOT sleeping at all that night, i'll just be too excited! :cool1:

Right now, we're booked to stay at the Hyatt on our arrival night since we get in so late and have young kids. I never even considered not getting our luggage ourselves. There is just too much that could go wrong...why risk starting your trip off on a bad foot with lost luggage?

The Hyatt at MCO is not that much more expensive than the value resorts. The advantage is that you can just about walk off the plane and into your hotel room. When we were there last year, I did online checkin, stopped at a kiosk to pick up my key and went straight to my room. Even with picking up our luggage, we were in bed within an hour of landing.

Ditto. The MCO Hyatt isn't "close to" the airport...it's inside the airport. You can walk off your plane and be in your room in 15 minutes. There's no transferring, or waiting for a shuttle. We booked when our flight was getting in just before midnight, because at that time of night, there is a big difference between 12:15 and 1:00 a.m. or later. Plus, the last time we checked into a Disney resort our MBs didn't work to open the door. :headache: I don't want to be dealing with that at 1:30 in the morning with two tired kids. We're not staying there because of the price, we're staying there because of the location.

You're both right, i did not take into account travelling with young children. If that was the case i would seriously consider staying. However the comment about not being that much more ... just plugged in my dates and the best rate i can get at the Hyatt is 171.00 and i'm currently booked into the ASMusic for 103.00. I can have one heck of a meal for 70.00!!! I do wish my hubby would consider staying there since you can have them retrieve your luggage and deliver it to the ME in the morning but that adds even MORE to the cost. Enjoy your holiday!!
