Hey all! This year is my first stay at a Disney Resort and I wanted everyone's advice on the Magical Express service for our luggage? Any pros air cons to using the service? I will be staying at Beach Club at the end of August...thanks for any input you have!

The luggage service is the best part of ME (IMO). BUT, if you are arriving late (after 10p definitely), that could factor into the decision.

Your luggage is supposed to be in your room four hours (or was it 3) after you CHECK IN at the resort. Figure 90 minutes from when your plane lands until you get to the resort and you're looking at (up to) five and a half hours.

Since you should ALWAYS have the first 24 hours of "supplies" in your carryon bag, that may or may not be bad for you.

You also have the option of arranging for bell services to store your bags if they get to the resort after you go to bed (and you call for them in the morning).

OK, this post really makes no sense. :headache: Bottom line... The good FAR outweighs the bad.

Have to agree with what Sam said.
I have used DME many times...have yet to have a bad luggage experience. Now, having said that...if I was arriving at MCO at any time after 6pm, I think I would leave the luggage tags off my checked bags and get them at baggage claim myself. Then, they go underneath the bus I am riding on (have to tip the driver tho) and handed to me when I get off at my resort. That way, I can unpack right away and get settled. Otherwise, it could be 3 hrs or so after I get to my resort until my bags get there!!

Also, as already mentioned, be sure to pack anything you must have for the first 24 hrs. I like a change of clothes and small toiletries...just in case a bag gets misdirected...by the airline.

I agree completely with the previous posters. We also have only positive experiences with DME, however the last few times we've gone we have only had carry-on bags. Love the service! :)

The luggage service part of DME is fine however we always prefer to grab our own bags and bring them to the bus with us. We like to have our bags with us upon arrival so we can change and also unpack if our room is ready. If you don't mind waiting for your bags, it's a good option.

I prefer not waiting for our bags at the airport. I'd rather go directly to DME. This way, it's likely I'll get to WDW a half hour sooner.

By packing a carry-on with anything you need the first day (or even the first 24 hours), you get the best of both worlds: a bag with what you need right away, plus the rest of your bags delivered to your room even if you're not in the room at the time.

However, as nkereina noted, getting your own bags at baggage claim is also an option (just don't use your yellow DME routing tags). In this case, it's customary to tip anyone who assists you with your bags, including airport porters, the DME driver, and bell services at your resort.

you mention for your luggage, do you mean luggage only while you rent a car, or will you be on the bus too?

Good point - technically speaking, you do need to ride DME in order for them to handle your luggage.
