Hi - We are at WDW May 19th - staying at WL. They sent me a letter about the magical express. We are getting a rental car, but what do you think about using them to just transport our luggage and not us? I wonder if they would do that? If so, I wonder if that would save us time, or would we have to worry about them losing the luggage or missing some of it? Maybe it isn't worth the hassle, but with 2 kids, and waiting to get our luggage, I thought it would be one less thing we would have to do at the airport!
Any thoughts? What would you do? We are not really experienced travelers and this will be our first time traveling with the kids. :confused3

They will not transport just luggage.
Check for more info on the transportation board. Lots of people are asking questions and some very well inofrmed people are responding.

I think that this question was asked on the transportation board. According to most of the posts you must be on the bus for them to transport your luggage. I think that some people have indicated that you can "beat the system", but from most postings you must be on the bus.

Everything I've read on here says on - luggage only transfer is not allowed. Some say they will have to "match" someone with your bags for security purposes. People who've asked Disney say that Disney has said no. All that being said, until it gets going, no one knows what they will be allowing and not allowing for sure, or if there are loop holes. I'd say that one of the main reasons to offer Magical Express is to keep you from driving your rental car to Universal or some other offsite destination, so transporting just your luggage while allowing you to rent a car would be counter productive to their objectives.

You can use the Magical Express on the return to the airport without taking the bus if you are flying on one of the participating airlines. Check in, drop your bags and get to the sirport on your own. That is explained toward the bottom of one of the FAQs that is floating around. Look for posts by Horace Horsecollar on the Transportation board.....if memory serves that is!

my post was not directed at anyone special and I'm sorry if I offended anyone, there fore I deleated it.

If you're replying to my post, I'm not trying to "get around" anything. If you read the longer ME FAQ, it says that you can check in and get your boarding pass at your WDW hotel, check your bags through to your return airport and then get to the airpost on your own IF you are flying on one of the participating airlines.

I'm not talking about on the way from MCO to WDW....just return.

In fact, I've read that for return service, you can arrange it from your WDW hotel room.

I do agree that time will tell. :sunny: It will be fun to read the early reports once the entire service begins.

Technically, if you are flying one of the 'participating' airlines, you check-in for your flight at your resort, they take your bags and you don't see them again until you get to your home airport. You then, go about your business, until it's time to take the ME back to the airport. Once there, you go directly to the security area since you have already checked in.
If it is a non-participating airline, you hop on the bus, with your luggage underneath in the belly of the bus, so to speak. Then at the airport, it's the normal proceedure...check in, get your boarding pass, check your baggage, go to security.

All I can say is I can't wait till those who try to mess up the ME system( by using it for luggage only then rent a car or car service instead of getting on the bus) just can't seem to find their luggage at their resort later that day.

I can just see all the crying about lost luggage :confused3 . Plus the trouble it will cause to those who get on the bus on time but now have to wait for the CM's to recheck those that aren't there.

How about we :grouphug: try to help Disney with this FREE SERVICE so that it doesn't turn into a big mess (that will be blamed on Disney of course) not the system breakers.

Nobody knows how ME will work out yet and all these posts about it have diff views. Lets leave it like it is set up, give it a chance then 6 months from now who knows.

Feel free to FLAME AWAY, JMO
Wow- It was just a question - I have no intention of 'messing up the system'! I have really enjoyed posting and participating in this board until now!!! Thanks!

Until you check in with The Magical Express folks, your luggage will stay at MCO, it will be assumed your luggage got here and you didn't. It is my understanding that luggage transfers via truck will not occur until the guests check-in at the Disney Welcome Center..Blah.. Blah

The way around this is pretty simple if you really want to rent a car at the airport.

Consider a Family of 4...Most Airlines will check 2 bags per person. That is is 8 bags.

Condense, Have the fuss, whatever, but fit what you want/have to bring into 6 bags or into carry-ons.

Make RES with DME with 3 people, the 4th goes and gets the car, and meets their loved ones at the resort. DONE DEAL!!
