Magical express question

I am Canadian, so I don't get my magicbands until I check in. That being said, does anyone know if I can use a band from a previous trip to board magical express? My best friend is joining me, but taking a later flight. So I'm wondering if I can give her my hard copy tickets and just use a band for myself earlier in the day.

I think you might be able to designate that band as your band for this trip. You would need to access your MDE account for this. Then once at the resort, you can have the new band activated and ignore the first band.

As a Canadian, you won't need a Magic Band to board ME. You will check in by name.

All of the MagicBands in a person's MDE account are interchangeable and can be used for all of your trips. You can't designate a band for a trip. You don't need to.

You can use any magic band that is assigned to you and has not been deactivated. (You would have to deactivate it personally, although there are instances of bands being deactivated by the system in the case of guests who have a lot of magic bands assigned to them. The system doesn't know what to do with a large number of bands. But if you only have a couple, it should not be an issue.)

There are no "designated" magic bands for any particular trip. They are not specific to the trip you received them for, and you should be able to use any of them interchangeably.

The batteries in the bands last approximately 18-24 months. Brought along 4 of my previous bands...3 worked still.

We used our previous Magic bands last trip for both DME and daily use. We had the bus tickets but didn't need them because the bands were able to be scanned.

Yep and you don't need the battery for the band to work at touch points.

I should point out that the package you get from Disney, usually a month or less from the date you arrive has within it the pass that allows you to board the bus. I have always had my band but used the page in the booklet to gain access to the ME.

Really? Darn! I didn't realize. I was looking forward to getting the magicbands.

Yes, unfortunately they only ship within the United States. We can still personalize them, but they have them at the front desk for check in. If you booked a package, the new luggage tags that now come in the magic band box is also at check in and not before departure.

Yes, we always have to use the booklet. But my friend doesn't have a magic band and we only get one booklet, so I want to leave it with her and use my band

As long as you are on the resort reservation, you don't actually need to use a band OR a booklet...the CM at DME can look you up and print a voucher for you to use on the bus.

My friend is on a later flight than me next month. I got the luggage tags, so I photocopied the letter and sent it to her with her tag. She'll have a previous magic band but she'll have that as backup. I'll give her the new magic band when she gets there.

Last trip or magic bands didn't scan at ME. The lady was really really mean and sent us away after supposedly looking us up and telling me we weren't in the system. I stepped away and dug out the booklet and we went to a different employee who immediately scanned us and let us get into our bus line. I think the First Lady we came to didn't spell my name correctly. She spoke very poor English (foreign). It was very frustrating especially since she treated us so badly. I would take everything available to prove the reservation after this experience. She was not going to let us on.

Those batteries only matter for the far away rfid readers. Meaningless for the uses of the band when you touch something. Like a door or the DME touch spot or entering a park or for FPs etc.
