Magical Express Question

I called Disney's Magical Express last week, gave them my family's room reservation and everything, and they stated that I should look in the mail for their special luggage tags. Normally, I wouldn't worry about something arriving in the mail by the middle of next week, but they expressed some concern that my tags wouldn't get to me in time.

So my question is this: Do I absolutely HAVE to put these tags on my suitcase in order to use DME or can I retrieve my luggage like I normally would and ride the DME bus anyway?

You can skip putting on the tags and get your luggage. However, you don't have to have the tags in order for Magical Express to take care of your luggage. Stop by the Magical Express desk at the airport and show them the luggage tags you get at your home airport. Those, along with a description of your bags, is enough for them to find it and get it for you.

Well, the tags came anyway, so I just slap the one with my name on it on my suitcase and cast it's fate to the Mouse right?

Yes. But remember it's fate isn't just in the hands of the Mouse, it has to go through the airlines before it gets to the Mouse.

Just to clarify...DME needs about 10 days to print up your DME packet/tags and get them to you via the mail system. They do a pretty good job of that.

As far at worrying about your checked bags when using DME baggage service. Don't. You stand a much greater chance of the airlines misdirecting your baggage. So, with that thought in mind, pack your carryon bags with anything you need to have to start your fun in WDW. That way, 'if' the airlines misdirect your checked bag(s), you will have what you need with you. No, it most likely won't happen, but the one time I didn't pack my carryon the right way, was the one time I neede it to be.
