This will be our first time using it and not renting a car....anyhow...we are arriving at our resort at the airport at 7:45pm and was wondering if I should pick up my luggage. We'll probably be in bed by 10pm that night....would the luggage possibly make it to my room by 10? Or should I just pick it up myself. I'd love to just get off the plane and go, but I don't want to be up really late, we are there for only 3 whole days....so we'll need a good nights sleep to get going in the morning:)

***this is of course assuming that we make it to the resort by 9pm

As long as you have your tags and go to the desk at terminal they will take the luggage to your room, you shouldn't have to worry about that....remember they will deliver it to your room for all flights that arrive before 11:00 pm....after that they will ask you if you want it delivered to your room the next day....I recommend go and enjoy your short stay as soon as you get there:cool1:

If your flight arrives at 7:45, you should be at your resort by 9ish, and in your room by 9:15ish. Your bags, most likely, won't get to the resort until after 10:00. So...you can either tell them not to deliver them until the next morning, or (and this is my choice) I would leave the tags off the checked bags and retrieve them yourself. Now, that will add about 20-25 mins to your time, so you won't get to the resort until about 9:30ish...you have to wait at the baggage carousel for the bags, but you'll be in bed at 10:00, or so, and won't have to worry about getting your bags.

Wow! Thanks for the info! What time the next morning do they deliver the bags??

Not sure. Some time after 7:30 am. We just did the late night thing on this past Wednesday. We arrived after midnite. We told them we did not want our bags that night. We had what we needed to go to bed and get up the next morning.

When we arrived back at the room about 3:30 the next afternoon, our bags were there.

I'm facing a similar scenario and was thinking about carrying on our next day's clothes and the legal amounts of toiletries, etc. so we'd be covered for the next day in case the bags were delayed. That way we can take advantage of the "express" part of the DME service.

That's exactly what I did. It not only makes things easy, but it also protects you in case the AIRLINE delays your luggage.

We are just back from WDW and had no problems with DME. We also arrived at MCO at 7:45pm. There was no line up at the ME check in and we walked right on a bus to Pop Century. It was the first stop the bus made so we were in the check-in line by 9:00. We went swimming after we got to our room and when we got back to our room at 10:45, all 4 of our bags were there. We brought along toiletries, a change of clothes, and our swimming suites in our carry-on just in case there were problems.

Not having to wait for our bags and just hop on a bus after a long day of flying was really nice.

Welcome home Saskdisnut

Trust your connection in the peg went smooth - How was the connection in Chicago?

Told ya ME was the best !!

Good thread--thanks for the info.
Has anyone here chosen to get their bags from the airport instead of using the ME system? We arrive in Orlando at 9:45, and some members of my group may be less stressed having luggage in hand before they go to bed.
However, does it make boarding the buses, traveling to the resort, etc much more complicated?

No, not at all. Just don't put the yellow luggage tags on your checked bags. Then, you'll have to add an addtl 20 or so minutes to your time since you'll have to go to baggage claim. But, once you do that, you can take your bags with you to the DME desk. Only one person has to be in the line to check everyone in the group in, as long as you are on the same reservation (one person in line for each room reservation). Then, your bags will be put underneath the bus you are riding on, and then removed when you get to your resort.
I love DME, I love just about everything about it. But, I have to say that if I were arriving in the evening, I would most likely get my own bags. I just have to settle in before I go to bed.

I think unless you have a ton of bags to carry, you would be fine to just wait for you bags to be delivered. Along with our bags, we checked a small package with just our suntan lotion in it and we took the time to retieved it before getting into the ME lines. We STILL ended up ridin gon the same bus as people form our flight who did not go to the baggage area (guess this tells you how long that ME wait can be!). It took us about ten minutes to wait for the small box of lotion to roll by on the luggage converyor---we opted not to stay and pick up our other luggage and I ahd taken a backpack with our overnight toiletries and a change of clothing in it in the overhead on the flight---when we were checking in, we told the CM that we were heading right to the parks, so could they deliver my change of clothing backpacks to our room and the were happy to do so. I hope this has helped!
