Magical Express or Rental Car

The Magical Express is great!!!! But keep in mind you are tied than only to Disney. No going to the grocery store (they have them at most resorts) or other attractions or other restaurants. If you are totally doing disney, it is the only way to go!

We have always rented a car but we alwyas stayed offsite. Our next trip we would like to stay onsite.

all4fun - thanks for the on site rental tip. I think next trip, we'll use DME to get to the Beach Club, use the boats/walk for DHS and Epcot but rent a car for a couple days to get some groceries and drive to AK and MK.

I have heard good and bad for both DT and ME.
SOme of the horror stories were lost luggage and having to wait several days to find it.
Can you imagine ecountering that
If luggage was delayed for several days, that had to be an AIRLINE problem rather than a DME problem. Everyone has heard of airlines delaying and losing luggage. But if you use DME, everyone is quick to blame DME ... DME can't deliver the bags in a timely manner if the airline mistakenly flew the bags to MCI (Kansas City) instead of MCO (Orlando).

There are no widespread luggage problems with DME. Have there been a few isolated problems among the approximately 8 or 10 million people who've used it? Sure. Of course. No system is perfect. For instance, I've read of people getting to a rental car counter only to find out that the place is sold out of cars even though the people had reservations. But I would never let that talk me out of renting a car, because I accept that while those are horror stories, they are exceptionally rare horror stories.

If you're doing more than Disney then I would rent a car. Otherwise IMHO nothing beats DME. I will praise them as much as possible. If I had a suite with a kitchen I would rent a car for a day to go get groceries but We typically like dining out and when I'm on vacation I don't want to cook. ;)

I am also debating on whether to rent a car or just use Disney transportation. I have always used Disney transportation and I guess it has been fine, but I was thinking of how much time I would save using a rental car and not having to wait on a bus. My daughter is against renting the car. :confused3
