We are arriving at 8:15 pm. Just wondering how the delivery is for luggage at that time of day? Is faster slower or the same? If it's not there by the time we want to go to sleep will they still bring it into the room for us?

figure 3 hrs from check-in. You can tell BS to bring it up in the morning if it's to late.

As the OP said, you need to figure that you will get your luggage about 3 hours from check-in. If you plan to go to the park after you get to the resort, getting your luggage around midnight won't be bad. However, whenever I've gotten to MCO that late(I believe ME stops transporting luggage from MCO at 10pm) I just go to baggage claim and get my luggage. I then go back to terminal B to board the bus. If your plane lands at Terminal A, that's a very long walk but worth it to know that you don't have to stay up until your luggage gets delivered.

That's what I was telling my DH. I don't know why I just though of it this morning. But, we usually arrive much earlier so I never considered it before. I don't know which side our plan lands. It is southwest and this is the second time flying with them so I really don't remember. I think we should get our luggage ourselves - if I can talk DH into it. He likes letting ME handle it.

Forgive my ignorance. I believe our flight arrives on side A - southwest. So, we pick up our luggage on side A and then proceed to side B and magical express? We have decided we do want to pick up our own luggage. I read the pamphlet from ME and it says baggage claim is side B so that was a little confusing to me. Is there baggage claim on both sides?

Yes, there is baggage claim on both sides and it corresponds to the concourse you come from (A is claim A and B is claim B). The ME desk and pick-up is on the B side.

If your airline participates in the ME luggage program, you don't have to go to baggage claim at all - you can go straight to the claim B area and buses. If you want or have to claim your own luggage then you may have to make the trek over to A side and back to B side.

We've never traveled on an A side airline in conjunctino with ME, but have had to make the trek. Rented a car with Avis and I think he was so upset I refused paying for an upgrade multiple times and ended up getting it for free as they didn't have a car in my paid class that he made me claim the car on the other side. Whatever...

Thank you. I have used the ME luggage service many times. The only reason I am considering getting our own luggage is because we are not arriving until 8:15 pm and I really don't want to take the chance of waiting until midnight for our bags. I do plan to bring a carry on too, but I am sure there would be a few things I really want out of my suitcase.
Sorry about your trouble renting a car!!

We did Magical Express late once. Actually rented a car and two of us went shopping and did ME for the rest of the party. We, in the rental, actually got to the room at the same time as our ME guests (they did check in and we did not) and we beat our luggage by hours. They took the full 3 hours plus. If you don't want midnight or after bag delivery, grab it for sure.

FWIW, there should be porters at baggage claim. Find one, tell him/her that you need help, and they will take the bags and guide you through the airport to DME. For the price of $1-$2 per bag, it's a great deal and a great help.

If you plan to collect your own bags, do not put the DME tags on your checked luggage or it will not make it to the carousel - it is separated before going that far. Just use the regular airline bag tags and collect the bags yourself and go to DME. It can sometimes take 4 hours for the bags to be delivered ... AND ... Guests arriving after 10pm will NOT have their bags delivered until the next morning. The DME luggage service runs from 5:00am - 10:00pm . If there is any chance your flight might arrive after 10pm I would not take the risk at all and just plan to collect your own bags and take them with you on the DME bus.

"Effective March 30, 2009, Disney's Magical Express will no longer offer luggage delivery service for arrivals to the Orlando International Airport after 10 p.m. Guests arriving at the airport after 10 p.m. will pick up their luggage at the baggage claim and take it with them to the Magical Express motor coach to their resort. This will allow late-arriving guests using Magical Express to have more immediate access to their luggage. Luggage delivery service will still be provided for Magical Express and Disney Cruise Line guests traveling to Walt Disney World for a resort stay who arrive on flights beginning at 5 a.m. until 10 p.m."

This may be answered somewhere, but I cannot locate. I would like to use the luggage delivery service, and have tags. But I have rented a car. Will they still deliver my luggage so I can bypass baggage claim?

No they will not deliver your luggage If you are not scanned into the system when you arrive at the bus loading area. The purpose of Magical Express is to keep you from renting a car and going off site. The want you spending all of your money on Disney Property. they do not offer the service out of the goodness of their hearts. Disney is a business after all.

Take a look at this Sticky Thread at the top of the Transportation Board:

Dme....luggage only.....don't want to ride the bus!!!!!

As you will read, it is possible to do what you propose - many do. That said, there are some risks involved and you should be aware of them before you decide what to do.

And there don't seem to be that many people doing it *now*, with the magicbands etc, so it's a pretty big black hole of current info.
