We will be arriving fairly late on a Saturday (8:30 PM), so what are are the odds of getting our luggage that night?
Because of that uncertainity , we are considering hiring a limo and do a grocery stop. Will we find a grocery store open? (I'm guessing around 9:30 PM).

We have flown in later than that before (but still before 10)....ME will typically deliver luggage about 3 hours after your arrival, and that still holds true for later arrivals...we once got a knock on the door at 1:00 am!!! I have read on some posts where the front desk will actually decide to hold the luggage until morning...but I suspect that is not the norm...as for stores...there's got to be a 24 hour Wal-Mart around or something...though I don't know for sure. Hope this helps. :thumbsup2

You would get your luggage that night (I think they tell you that your luggage could take 3 or 4 hours to be delivered), but you might not want to either stay up that late or be woken up at midnight. One thing I've heard others do is to pack everything that they will need for bedtime in their carry on bags.

Another option is to just pick up your own luggage from the baggage caroussel (don't put the magic express tags on them) and take them with you to the Magic Express bus. They will store the bags for you under the bus. If you go this route, you could bypass the need for a grocery stop by ordering your food items from Garden Grocer, Wegoshop or one of the other grocery delivery sites. They would have your order waiting for you when you arrive.

Or you could go with your alternate plan of a limo/town car and a grocery stop. This would probably be the most expensive alternate.

We are getting into Orlando at 9:55pm. i was looking forward to someone else wrestling with our luggage, but my sister (who will be there already) said they only pick-up luggage until 10pm. She suggested we pick up our luggage ourself and get it to the Magical Express bus. i will be with my husband and other sister, both she and i use a walker. i'm a little apprehensive about us struggling with walkers and our luggage, too. But i guess our only other option is to let our luggage sit there overnight.

I would definitely get your own luggage. We were due to arrive at MCO around 10pm one trip (so didn't tag our luggage for ME) but due to a delay, we didn't arrive until after midnight. While waiting for our luggage, we saw a very sad sight. There were about a dozen or so bags with ME tags just going around and around the carousel. Some of them had fallen off and were lying on the floor. When we left about 1/2 hour later the bags were still there. It would have been so easy for anyone to have stolen those bags. Maybe a porter could help you?

DME only pulls luggage until 10 p.m., so if your flight arrives after 10 p.m. (even if it was scheduled to arrive earlier), then you need to get your own bags and take them to the DME bus. It's not entirely clear exactly what happens to tagged bags that arrive after 10 p.m. if they aren't collected by their owners. It appears that they do get to the resort eventually, but it is likely that they remain unattended in the baggage claim area for potentially some time before Disney collects them.

If you do use the DME luggage transfer service, you can expect that your bags will arrive in your room within about three hours or resort check in most of the time. With an 8:30 p.m. arrival, that means it could be as late as 1 a.m. (or even a little later) and still be within the window (assuming it could take up to 90 minutes to get from plane to resort). At the Deluxe and Moderate resorts, bell services is open 24 hours a day and they will deliver your bags when they arrive unless you make arrangements to have them held overnight until you call in the morning. At the Value resorts, luggage services generally close at around Midnight, so bags arriving after that typically are not delivered until morning.

Limo would be the most expensive option. I would either pick up the luggage from baggage carousel, this means not putting DME tags on your luggage, and taking your luggage on the DME with you. Other option would be to just pack your jammies, bathing suit if you want a hot tub that night :goodvibes, and change of clothes in the carry ons, and have DME deilver. Last time we used DME our luggage arrived (stayed at Poly) in an hour. Really fast.

When we fly we always pack jammies & change of clothing anyway. In case airline looses our luggage, or doesn't make it on our connecting flight. It's happened more then it should!

I would suggest you pick up your luggage at the carsoussel and rent (around $2-4) one of the 4 wheeled carts and let your husband push all your luggage to Magical Express). After that, let the great people at "bell services" at your resort take care of it. Once you get on the plane to WDW, you don't have to lug anything around...

What about using the luggage carts? Husband can push the cart, if he doesn't use a walker. Do they have Sky Caps or whatever the people are called who hang out by the baggage, and can assist you getting your luggage to the DME?
Someone may know if MCO has this service. http://www.orlandoairports.net/ops/disabled.htm

OP - I would do exactly this. We almost always, regardless of our arrival time, collect our own luggage and store it under the ME bus. We prefer to have our luggage when we arrive so we can change and unpack, if our room is ready. We don't need groceries ever but I've heard a lot about the services and they are very reliable with many selections.

How will you get your luggage to the airport? Also too, when you leave WDW, if your airline doesn't participate in resort check-in, you'll have to take your own bags on ME anyhow. Bell services is available at the hotel to assist you, and there should be luggage carts and possibly porters at the airports to help as well.

There are a number of 24 hour Walmarts between MCO and Disney. Which one will be closest depends on which resort you're using. My DH rented a car when he came in after midnight, and hit a Walmart on the way to SSR. Go to www.walmart.com and search for 24 hour ones near MCO; then just do a mapquest for the route from MCO to Walmart to your resort to see which one to use.

If your flight arrives, ontime, at 8:30, you should be at your resort by 10pm, could be sooner. Your bags will be picked up by DME workers if you have tagged them. Then, you can expect them about 3 hrs after resort checkin...by 1am. But again, probably before that.
If you go the DME route, I would put in a grocery order with wegoshop.com or gardengrocer.com. Yes, they charge a delivery fee, but it's around $15ish, then they deliver to your resort at the time you have requested.

If you decide to use a towncar service, it should run about $130ish, not including tips. You will have to wait for your bags...so you won't be getting to the towncar until about 9:00ish...takes about 10 min to get to baggage claim, and then 20 or so mins to get your bags...again, could be sooner.
You then take the bags out to the car. Head to a grocery store...by now it's about 9:30ish. You get out of the grocery story around 10ish, and to your resort by 10:30ish...could be sooner depending on how long you spend in the grocery store. Lug everything up to your room.

I guess it all depends on what kind of experience you want. I would prefer to either tag my bags (if arriving prior to 9:30) and have DME deliver them to my room and then have put in a grocery order, or....leave the bags untagged, take them to the DME bus with me (with tip in hand for the driver for stowing your bags), and then have them upon arrival at the resort...and use a grocery delivery service.

Our plan for getting to the airport is to have hubby drop us off curbside with luggage, go park the car, then use the skycaps to check luggage.

Sue M - i haven't flown in a very long time and can't remember how big the luggage carts are, but that is an option. Or if i see a skycap or porter hanging about the baggage claim, would gladly pay them to haul our bags.

sseely40851 - We haven't used them before, but our family will be ordering from www.gardengrocer.com. i called to ask questions and the lady was very nice. They can basically get you anything, including wine. This might be a good option for you. i understand that Bell services at the hotel will hold your delivery for you if it arrives when you aren't there.
