Magical Express/Extra Key Question

My mom will be staying in our two bedroom at AKV before we go on our cruise. I did not add her to our room becuase we are doing the dining plan and I didn't want to pay for 4 days for her that she won't use.

So, my sister-in-law added her to the room she has for my in-laws (studio) at Bay Lake Towers. They are all getting in the same day and can do the dining plan for the two days they are going to be there.

But, my mom is not staying at BLT. She is staying at AKV. She is traveling with a friend who will also be staying at AKV. Can she have Magical Express take her to AKV instead of BLT? She is not getting in until after midnight, so she will keep her luggage with her and it will not go through Magical Express. I am assuming Magical Express will not be that busy that late at night and one bus may be doing a lot of drop-offs. If not, I will have to go to BLT and pick her up but I wanted to avoid this scenario. (It still beats paying $180 for her have several useless days on the dining plan.)

Your Mom can ride ME to whichever resort (and only that resort) she is named on the room.

It sounds awfully complicated. And I really can't tell from your post exactly what is happening.

It sounds like your sister has inlaws staying for 2 nights at BLT, and has added your Mom to their room. The inlaws have the DDP? If so, your Mom will need to have it for those two days, and will need to get her room key to use it.

Then it sounds like your Mom is staying at AKV with a friend, not with you, while you go on a cruise. But perhaps your mom is arriving a night or two before her friend.

I would just book a studio at AKV for your Mom for a couple of nights, then her luggage and ME will be correct for her. Or perhaps you could segment your AKV stay, so you could add your Mom just for the nights you need.

But the easiest solution to the whole thing seems to be NOT to do the DDP at all, and just book your mom into your room.

This whole thing is really a question best asked to Member Services, since they now have the capability of segmenting the reservations. But if it isn't possible, I would just not do the DDP.

Vacations aren't supposed to be complicated and that is what your plan to avoid DDP is doing to your trip.

Well, they will indeed have her ride on the bus to BLT. She could claim she wants to go over to AKV and see what they say - it could very much depend on how busy they are.

What I would suggest is just go to BLT, walk over to MK and take the bus to AKL. (assuming MK is open until at least an hour before she gets there - which that late may not be the case!).

She could take a cab BLT - AKV. Perhaps could she stay at BLT the first night?

Or she could skip ME altogetther and just take a cab to AKV.

I'd just ask at ME though. They are very accomodating when they can be.

Can you not just add your mom to your reservation for the days she will be there?

How is the friend booked at AK? (DVC or hotel side?) Could she be added to the friends reservation?

Assuming your not breaking any occupancy rules (and I'm in no way saying you are) you should be able to work this out with MS.

Bottom line is that you are showing her staying at BLT when in reality she is staying at AKV with you. You don't want to pay for her to be on your DDP because it will cost you $180, but she will be on the BLT DDP for 2 days. Instead of ME taking her to BLT, you want her taken to AKV.

The answer is no, they will take her to BLT. If everyone is on the same bus, she could just get off at AKV but there is no way to know ahead of time.

I suggest that you put her on the AKV reservation with the DDP and have others use the credits.

Rarely does the AKV and BLT share a bus....AKV seems to share with CSR, Values, etc....not the monorail area's.

Depends on how many riders there are. The OP's Mother isn't arriving until after midnight.

She will not be allowed to take the bus to AKL unless she is named on a reservation there, for her actual arrival day. The friend that she is traveling with, to AKL, should put her on that reservation, that way she can use DME.
Or....she can get to MCO, then go to the Mears shuttle area, just before the DME area, and book a ride to AKL. In all likelihood, she will be put on a DME bus to AKL. It will cost about $19, payable when she is at the counter.

I'm guessing that the friend and the Mother will be staying with the OP in the 2 bedroom at AKV, that's why she would be added to the OP's DDP. Once on a bus, you can get off at any of it's stops, the driver doesn't care. I have gotten off to eat lunch at a different resort before checking in at our resort.

Sorry my post was confusing!! My Mom is in our 2 bedroom (which will have 6 in it when she gets there). We like DDP and always do it, I like not having to worry about the cost of entree, etc, which I do when I am not on DDP. So we are getting it for our room. She is going on the cruise with us and is coming in 2 nights before the cruise. Our whole group is going on the cruise. My mom did not want to pay for the extra nights DDP, so we came up with this solution. My husband or I will just have to drive over to get her. I thought about segmenting the reservation, but I have read about so many problems with that, that I didn't feel like messing with it. I did not have enough points to book her own room. Plus we have plenty of room. She could actually stay with my in-laws at BLT becuase they are really good friends, but we have much more room.

I don't mind going over to get her, just was wondering what ME would do. I will tell her to ask and if it doesn't work, just to cal me when she is on her way.

Thanks. Again, sorry I was confusing.

Won't she have to pay for the DDP at BLT?

If she's not getting in till after Midnight she won't get to BLT till 1 am or later. Why not just stay at BLT and get her in the morning.

Why not just segment your reservation and add you mom where she is staying. You will need to get new room key but should not have to change rooms.

ME will take her where her reservation is for.

Yes she will, but only for two days and not for 6 like we are. My in-laws are coming in same day as she is and that is when their reservation starts.

I have thought about segmenting, but have read too many horror stories, so I didn't want to mess with that.

I may have her stay with my in-laws that night and just get her in the morning.

Since you will have a car, why not drive to the airport to pick her up. Since she is arrving after midnight, she will have to get her own luggage anyway. You'll save time by picking her up rather than her taking ME.

She will be issued a travel ticket to the resort inwhich her name appears on the reservation. She will need to use this ticket to board the bus. The bus driver must scan her boarding card before she gets on the bus. But if she is arriving after midmight the chances of the bus she boards for her assigned resort may infact stop at the resort that she will be staying at. That late at night they tend to group even more resorts together on one bus. So she may get lucky all depends.
