ok when i made my reservations they asked me if i would be using it i said yes they took my flight info, now i want to get my own bags if i dont put the tags on will they not take my bag or will they still take it? i read on another thread that they will assume the tag fell off and they will still take it.
if that happens then i will think it is lost i dont want to spend my day at the airport what should i do ???

No, don't worry. If you want to get your own luggage don't put the yellow tags on the luggage. Assuming you de-plane and head to baggage claim in a timely manner to get your luggage it willl be on the carosel for you to claim. DME pulls luggage with yellow tags behind the scenes before it hits the carosel.

After all the passengers have claimed luggage if there are any leftover bags they are brought into the office as unclaimed luggage. This is and has always been the procedure in every airport regardless of DME.

What the DME reps will do is check on the unclaimed luggage to see if any of the names match the DME reservations. If so they will tranpsort those bags to the resort matching the passengers DME reservation. Again this is only if they remain unclaimed after a period of time.

We have used the DME luggage delivery feature 2 of our three times and it was wonderful. The one time we got our own luggage due to a very late flight they came out onto the carosel just like always!

I think you maybe a little bit off here. If the yellow tags are not on the luggage and it gets to the airlines office the passenger will be responsible for the bags, unless the passenger goes to DME and actually gives DME the luggage coded numbers. The CM's do not try to match names of the DME manifest, mainly because they probably don't carry an up to date one and also the lists may be to long, to the luggage that is not claimed off the carousels. If you say you are going to pick up your luggage and do not put the tags on the luggage you will be responsible for it until you give your luggage coded numbers to DME. Than and only than will they pick up your luggage from the airlines unclaimed luggage at the airline office.

DME cannot pick up luggage based on names. There might be two or three passengers with the same name and all the luggage would end up at Disney. They need the coded luggage numbers to pick up the luggage.

The CM's do stop by the airlines offices and check to make sure they have got all the luggage that have the Disney tags on them.

One airline, Delta, has verified the only pieces of luggage that is picked up by Disney CM's, at the airline office, are those tagged with the Disney tag and missed by the CM's. They will pick up untagged luggage if they have the coded numbers given up by the passenger at the DME welcome center.
