Magical Express/car rental/switching hotels

has anyone used the magic express (I think that's what it's called) from the airport to a DVC resort? Also, we are trying to avoid car rental costs, but are switching from AKL on Saturday to BW on Sunday. Anyone ever have their luggage moved? Then we go to Vero 2 days later (returning to SSR 3 days later)! Anyone ever rent a car from WDW? Thanks for the help!

I haven't rented a car at WDW but I have done the others, at least sort of. It is really easy to have your luggage transferred between WDW resorts. Just let bell services know early that morning when you want your stuff picked up and where it should go to. It will arrive at your next resort later that day.
As far as DME goes, since it doesn't start until May 5, none of us have used it yet, other than some who have used it to return to the airport while Disney does some 'shake out' runs. I have it booked for our arrival at BCV in June, then for dh's return to the airport (from BCV) 4 days later. Then, when dd and I move to POR, DME will pick us up there for the return to the airport. MS was very good at getting our 'complicated' stuff figured out!!!
I don't think you really need to rent a car until you go to Vero Beach. Disney does a wonderful job of getting stuff taken wherever you need it taken to.

I plan to use ME in June. I may rent a car a couple of days to go offsite shopping, though. I have rented before at the Dolphin (National) and also over at the Courtyard in the Downtown Disney resort area. That rental was Dollar, I believe. There is also another rental site on property at the car care area over by MK.

I hope you've figured out from everyone here that you don't need a rental car to change hotels. Although I haven't switched between AKL and BW, that combination, I have switched to AKL (from ASMusic) and to BWV (from SSR) without a rental car. And this year I plan to switch from OKW to POR, then from POR to BCV, all without a rental car.

Actually DME is already in limited service. I saw a bus at the AKL on March 11th and have read recently that it is already operational in some resorts. I will try to find that, but I think it may have been in an All Ears newsletter?

Switching resorts and moving bags is easy! Just have Bell Services take them, give them your destination (and tip!) and then pick them up at your new resort in the afternoon.
