So the ME info says that if your flight lands after 10pm, to collect your own luggage before boarding the bus.

My flight is scheduled to land at 10:05pm. Anyone have a flight close to the cut off, and not collected their luggage?

I was thinking of just tagging our luggage with the ME tags, and hopping on the bus without collecting it. We would be bringing ample supplies in our carry ons in case our luggage doesn't show up at the hotel til the next day.

Anyone done this? Thoughts?

They don't pick up luggage after 10, so your luggage wouldn't be picked up. I'm not sure I understand the question.

If it never gets collected from baggage claim, I assume they would put it in the unclaimed luggage area?

as the pp said, your luggage would be sent to unclaimed luggage...not put into holding for DME. You will need to collect your luggage if you want it for your vacation...

If you tag your bags with the yellow DME tags, and arrive after 10pm, those bags will go to the baggage carousel. Then, when they aren't claimed, they will be put aside until the next morning. At that time, DME workers will collect them, from each baggage area, and the bags will be sent along to the WDW resorts. You may not get those bags until mid-morning though. So, yes, be sure to pack anything you need for the night and the next morning in your carryon bags.
Many people have done it this way...I don't think I remember anyone not getting their bags the next morning.

If you arrive after 10 PM and fail to go to the carousel then Disney might not cover you for certain obscure and rare baggage claim situations.

When you do go to the carousel, file a baggage claim there before leaving if all of your baggage did not appear.

Well I will defer to goofy4tink's superior DME knowledge, but I would not personally be comfortable leaving my luggage going around on the carousel knowing that no DME person is going to be taking them at that time. I would be too worried that something would happen or someone else would decide to take them.

I doubt there will be any need for Disney to cover someone for certain obscure claim situations. And the entire purpose of not picking up the baggage is to avoid going to the baggage carousel in the first place.

I tend to agree. I don't care for my things to be unattended for that long. If it were me, I would just take the time to head to baggage claim and get my bags and bring them to the DME bus with me. But, some seem to hate taking the time to do this.

Thanks so much for the info everyone!

Maybe I'll tag the luggage, and then just see if we pull into the gate before 10pm, and decide then what to do!

Thanks again!

I think the second part - the baggage being unattended for that long - is what was meant by the obscure situations. Like, if you elect to leave it, Disney would not be responsible or liable for it if it were to be stolen while it's sitting out in the unclaimed baggage area overnight.

My flight gets in at 10:35 on Thursday night, and I'm just doing carry-on to avoid that long wait at the baggage carousel.

This happened to us. Our Delta flight arrived in at 10:10 pm....I had put the yellow tags just because, but we headed down to get out luggage...it didn't come. The person at the luggage area said that when a flight is close to 10:00 they check for yellow tags and will grab those bags....he had the list of which flights were going to be close and they were looking.
So, if you would rather not deal with it...put on your yellow tags....but....check and make sure they have been picked up...it only took us maybe 5 min.

HTH

That's good to know. I wouldn't want my luggage just waiting there at the airport.

Question for Googy4tink.....it's been so long since we've not used ME, how much extra time should we count on if we go to pick up our luggage. (we also are landing a few minutes after 10:00 for our upcoming trip) Are we talking an extra 30 minutes?
