Magical Express and a Rental Car

I have singed my DW, DS and myself up for Magical Express.

We are picking up a rental car at MCO. When we are heading to the airport, they (based on the ME FAQ's on the disney site), they will bring our luggage to the airport even if we do not ride the bus.

My question is....

Will they bring the luggage if we check in at the kiosk and do not ride the bus? (based on other posts, I doubt this but have to ask anyway)

Alternately, if my DW (and DS, if needed) ride the bus, how many bags will they transport for us from MCO to the hotel?

You receive a voucher at the DME desk. When you go to board the bus your voucher is scanned. If you don't board the bus the luggage isn't transported.

DME is not a luggage service but a service to transport people and their luggage to and from the airport. On your return to MCO you can use them to get your luggage to the airport if your airline is participating.

They will transport for each person what the airline allows. There is a sticky at the top of the transportation board about DME.

For arrival at MCO and going to WDW, DME will NOT transport luggage only. The owners of the luggage MUST ride the DME bus.

Here's how to do it:
One person rents the car, the others in the party ride the DME bus. Throw away the driver's yellow DME luggage tags. Tag all of your luggage with the DME tags of those who will ride the bus. That way, ALL of your luggage will be transported via DME, but not all of your party has to ride DME.

For the way back to the airport, the lucky few flying "participating" airlines can check their luggage in at their resort and also get boarding passes (this is called Resort Airline Check-In). You can use THIS to transport your luggage whether or not you're riding the bus back to the airport.

FYI: THere is a car rental location at DTD. You could pick the car up and return it there if you wanted.
