MAGICal Christmas 2008 - December 20, 2008

Monday morning, 9:30 at the Promenade Lounge - that's where the Ornament Exchange, Group Photo, and Digitial Scavenger Hunt info take place! Lisa Marie (BearFan is coordinating the Ornament Exchange and Digital Scavenger hunt).

I pulled out our old digital camera and charged it up so we'll have two cameras so the boys can each participate (and also for taking pictures throughout the cruise - our last trip, the boys scolded me for having had the camera with me when they wanted to get some shots).

Great. Thanks for the info.

Okay, so I'm freaking out a little bit:
Here's our forecast for Thursday night through Friday noon (and our flight leaves at 8 am Friday):

12+ inches of snow with blowing and drifting!
:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
I am so concerned about us getting out of the Milwaukee airport!!

I'd be freaking out, too! This makes me very glad we live in Florida and can drive! Thankfully you have an early-in-the-day flight so even if you're delayed getting out, you're more likely to get out on Friday than if you had a late-day flight that just got cancelled because of all the delayed flights behind it.

Question: I have put magnet strips on the back of a couple of signs I want to put on our door. Will the magnet strips cause any problems going through the luggage metal detectors???

I don't think it will. Just be sure to not pack them with anything electronic like cameras so the magnets won't mess with them. We flew with magnets in our luggage when we went to Barcelona last year and didn't have any trouble.

I just have to say that I had the most wonderful conversation with Shirley from the perfect gift. I never thought that I would be able to get a basket at this late date. Of course leave it to me for the last minute planning.

She took my order - was incredible sweet. I am so excited that my daughter will have her basket in the room when we arrive!

I know!! I called there late last week, and Maria took my order. Then, I got a call from Shirley yesterday, just confirming everything for my basket, because she said that she wanted it to be perfect for Christmas!! What a wonderfully sweet lady!!!

(By the way, I have not started packing)

No kidding! I'm petrified, too! We're flying out of O'Hare which is hit or miss at the best of times. Someone spills a cup of coffee in San Francisco at the airport and air travel is delayed at O'Hare, jeez. We're smack dab in the middle of your 12 inches of snow and the southern suburbs of Chicago forecast of 1/2 to 3/4 inch of ice Thursday night into Friday morning. Gals- sprinkle some pixie dust our way, won't you? I'm off tomorrow to pack, clean the house and worry.

Lisa Marie

cold and no school today. Gives me an extra day to pack and clean the house. Nothing is better than cold and snow when leaving for the Caribbean!!!

Prayers and pixie dust :wizard: that you guys up north are able to fly out without too many problems!!! I grew up in the NW suburbs of Chicago, and trust me, I remember those days!! AND, I don't miss them!!! That's why I live in FL now!!! Just think, a week from now you'll be in Grand Cayman!!!

I can't wait to see it. DH has himself and daughter packed. He still has to pack me. I have been working like crazy and have not had time to do anything!

I have a couple questions -

1. I bought magnetic sheets for the door signs. What do you use to cut them?

2. What is the best way to get from the airport to the Raddison? We are staying at the Raddison Thursday and Friday nights. I actual need a couple days to start to unwind.

I know I have a few more, but my brain is fried!

Kathy -

we are at the radisson FRiday night as well, if we can get out of Seattle! My sister, Ginny, should arrive early on Friday. My daughter, Father, and sister w/4 kids are taking the autotrain tomorrow to Florida. They thought they might stop at NASA but if not they are going straight to the Radisson. We don't arrive by plane until 4:30 then have to pick up car and drive to the port. My youngest sister, Kate, also from Washington is taking a towncar to the Radisson.

make sure you make reservations for the shuttle on saturday with the radisson!

Good morning everyone!! We leave tomorrow for Houston!!!:cool1: We are just cleaning house today because I hate, I mean HATE coming home from vacation to a messy/dirty house! I just got done mopping the dining room and kitchen floors and will slowly move my way through the house.

Well, in the end, DH and I decided not to bring the antibiotics after all because they don't have a prescription. You don't need a prescription for ANYTHING in Mexico, which is a little scary, but when it comes to antibiotics for the kids, it is VERY convenient and cost effective. The pediatrician tells me whats wrong with my child and I get the prescribed med from Mexico for a 10 minutes drive, no waiting period, and at 1/3 the cost. However, Rick thinks that because there is no prescription label on the bottle itself, it may present a problem.:confused3. I will just muddle my way through with Tylenol and Motrin if anything happens to the kids.:sad1:

It is STILL cold here in Texas, but now add rain to the equation and you have a VERY UPSET Irish lady on your hands (that would be me;) ). I can't wait to be on our way to fun in the sun tomorrow!!

Can you believe DH FINALLY started printing out our family cards and magnetic door signs today? I thought for sure he was going to wait until 10 minutes prior to walking out the door.:lmao:

Cool! We are flying out (hopefully) tomorrow am around 9:30 - should reach FL by 11:40. I guess I will give Towncars a call. We have used them before for WDW.

I did make our reservations for Saturday. We are taking the earliest shuttle they had available - 10:30. To excited to sit at the hotel.

I am not sure which of us is more excited??? Although I am stressing today - too much to do. I have a ton of work to get done before I can get out of the office. Two little children to interview this afternoon. Church Christmas party tonight. I have not packed anything for me. DH got him and daughter. We have to review the packing list for everything else and will probably be making a midnight trip to Wal-Mart. Best guess is that we will pull an all-nighter to get everything done. Still got gifts to wrap..

Airport is a 1 1/2 drive. We also have to make sure that all basses for the rest of the family are covered. DH'd 89 year old grandmother lives with us. She refuses to travel so she is staying home. We have 2 dogs, 2 cats, rabbit and fish to think about. Fortunately, I have a friend who will be staying at the house while we are gone.

Ok instead of rambling, I better go get some work done!

I love that our trip is so close! It sounds like those of you that are DVC members really love it! I have a TS in Galveston I want to get rid of and am thinking after I do that then I'll look into DVC. We go every year on the cruise and a few days at WDW so I really think we will use it!

Not much new to add today - just finishing up everything to get ready to leave! Pixi dust to all those up north! We are getting out of the freezing stuff here today and I think the next round is not due here until Sunday so hopefully the flights will be uneventful! I am really ready for a party with the Mouse!

I just checked my FedEx boxes tracking and they arrived yesterday! I am so glad - we shipped most of our clothes and all our decorations! Now we just have to get there on time!

We are seriously thinking about staying at the airport Thursday night. We are only 1 hour from airport but we are in mtns above Seattle.

We have 10:30 shuttle reservations too. Big shuttle - our 16 plus you and who knows how many other people! If we have to wait one it won't be a big deal. Still early!

We leave tomorrow after school!!:cool1:
We will be driving about 6 hours to Virginia and then the rest of the way on Friday.
I can't wait to meet everyone and get away from this snow and cold weather.
Sunshine here we come!!

Happy Travels to everyone that is traveling over the next few days. Be safe and we will see you when we get there.

P.S. I will probably check the board on Friday night from the hotel, that way I can see any last minute items people have posted.

Angie

I thought they were pretty stupid mto call school. Not much happening all day but now its snowing like crazy. Ran into town and an inch had piled up while I was gone. Lots of accidents. Washingtonions can't drive in the snow - at least west siders!

Upon arriving home from work tonight my wife informed me that we were "closed out" whatever that means from the Beach Excursion on Grand Cayman. In 2002 I recall just taking a cab to the Hilton\Hyatt? must have been close because the Magic was visible and we just walked onto there beach and chilled out...I think it was actually Xmas day and I remember a fully dressed Santa arriving at the beach on a Jet Ski :) Anyway, my question is does anyone know of a good family friendly beach that is easy to get to via cab that they can reccomend?

We are not doing an excursion at GC because the time is so short. I have plans to basically get to the pier and take a taxi to the 7 mile beach area and buy lunch at one of the hotels ($$- expensive, I know) so we can use their chairs etc. We considered Rum point but I'm not sure if its worth the cab ride all the way there for such a short period of time.

Lisa

Well the car is packed and we are ready to roll. At this point i am extremly glad we are not flying. I hope for all of you that are everything goes smothly. Thnakfully we warmed up a little bit and the snow is rain. We are leaving at 3:30am tomorrow morning. Can't wait to meet everyone on board Saturday!

Lissa

We'll be getting up at 5am and its now 11:30pm, so not much sleep for us tonight.

The flight earlier today to Orlando was 1.5hrs late, and as its the same plane that we'll be on tomorrow it will be probably late.

For those of you that are travelling in the snow, drive carefully.

Paul

Hopefully we will have school tomorrow. I am taking Friday to fly to Florida so really dont want to miss 3 days in a row. Kinda lost when Im not working.

just started to snow hard again.

They are calling for ICE here in the STL tomorrow.. but 45 on Friday.. our travel day. :thumbsup2
