Magical Beginnings - paying dues on the points you're selling back?!?

First of all, blue card FOMO is real y'all... I own 100 points resale at a 2042 resort because I'll be in my '70s by then and figure that's a good time to wrap up. My family has zero interest in Disney so there is a small part of me that wonders if I can even make the $$$ work for direct since I'm not using the membership for a bunch of extras like multiple APs, or MM events.

That said, I keep my eye out on direct discounts "just in case" and Magical Beginnings has me very, very tempted since at 200 points, you can get to $175pp for GF, not that much higher than resale. HOWEVER, my guide says that if you opt for Magical Beginnings, you actually have to pay dues for BOTH UY points. For anyone who has already taken advantage, did you hear the same? He also confirmed he could not help me stack the Disney Visa incentives since that had run out so congrats to those who squeaked it in earlier this week.

So I guess I have 2 questions:
1) Is it true with MB we pay dues on both sets of points, even though we only get to use one?
2) WWYD?

So if you purchased today then you would pay dues on 100 points from 12th May until 31st December, but pro rata (ie not for the whole year)

It wouldn't be on 2 set of points. You may have, for example, a August UY

In that case you would get 2022 points and 2023 points. But dues are only per calender year and not on 2 set of points

So while normally, yes, we would pay pro-rated dues from the purchase date forward, it seems like if we opt for Magical Beginnings, we actually pay the full year on the 2022 points. I was just wondering if anyone else who has bought using this program heard the same.

So yes, you pay dues from the date of purchase pro rata for the year.

I think what they are trying to imply…the same as always…you will pay a prorated fee on your points based on date of contract…so, those buying in a 2022 UY right now, would pay dues regardless.

For those getting 2023 points bought back, you pay your dues as always and would still owe dues come January as normal, even though your first set of points don’t now start until 2024.

They can’t change the dues due as it is prorated because they apply to operation of the resort, and they can’t charge you for costs to run the resort until you are an owner.

Or is it I would be paying dues on the 2023 points because we are in 2023 but not on the 2022 points? Or something else?

So it's best to purchase direct a month before the UY one wants, so they both years' points and only pay the minimum MF?

Forget about what points you are getting for dues. You pay from the day you sign the contract unless it is a new resort opening later in the year.

So, buying today, with a June UY, your first set of points is 2022. You will only pay 2023 dues since it is 2023 and you are becoming an owner of those points today.

Since you still get those 2022 points, it is a great time to do the add on for MB...because your dues are the same regardless of UY....and since you are so close to June 1st, its not going to feel like you are getting fewer points.

But, for others, just to clarify...someone buying today with an April UY, would have to sell back 2023 points, and would pay the same dues as you for 2023, since they no longer are in their 2022 UY.

Anytime one buys toward the end of the UY is works out since you feel like you are getting double points...and guides will frame it that way, but only paying MF's for the current calendar year.

So, if one is going to add on, waiting to do so until later in the UY, you will pay pro-rated dues for that calendar year and still end up with the same points since you must be given current UY points when you buy...unless it is a brand new resort, and then the first set is always the year the resort opens.

So to make this crystal clear, we're talking October UY and he made it clear that if I just use the incentives, I would only pay dues starting from the date of purchase (so a full set of 2022 points). BUT if I sell back the 2022 points using Magical Beginnings, he made it sound like I would owe 12 months of dues for those 2022 points that I can't even use! Otherwise, why would he make it clear there was a difference what dues would be owed if I stacked MB on top of the incentives? So that's an extra 7 months of dues. I was just wondering if anyone had bought over the past few weeks using the program, if they were paying the usual dues going forward, or also backdating dues?

That makes no sense because they can’t charge you for 2022 dues since that year is over and you didn’t own in 2022.

Dues cover operation of the resort so how can you owe for something for a time you were an owner.

RIGHT?!? And that's why I'm confused because he made it clear there was a difference using Magical Beginnings so I'm really hoping someone who bought can clarify. Also wondering if I should just try a different guide and see if I get the same answer...
 
They will ONLY charge you dues pro rata for 2023 (1st Jan - 31st Dec) from the DATE you purchase.

That is it. They can not charge you dues for when you were not an owner.

I would call and just ask a random guide because it does sound weird. My experience is you pay pro rata. Like at this point you get 2023 points for 7/8 months of dues instead of 12 months of dues. I’m not sure how they they would change that for magical beginnings, but I would double check because who knows what Disney has up their sleeves.

I have another question. If I buy direct and my UY is June, do I get both 2023 and 2022 points? Whereas if my UY was February I would only get 2023 points? I think that was how it worked for us but I am having trouble remembering! And then with Disneyland villas, I only get 2023 period?

When buying direct, you get current UY points…for Feb to April, those would be 2023 points…for June to Dec, it’s 2022 points.

Beginning June 1st, June UY begins with 2023….dues will be prorated from date of purchase.
