Magical Beginning?

I'm a newbie at this, just got my DVC package and no mention of Magical Beginning. What is it?

Welcome fellow Massachusetts and DVC neighbor!!!!

Magical Beginnings is when Disney offers to purchase your first years worth of points from you for a price.

For example---I purchased a 150 point contract in March 2002. Disney began my contract in August 2001, so they gave me a choice. I could either bank all 150 points or they offered to purchase all or part of my 2001 points from me at $10 per point. I sold back 125 points for $1250.

The amount can vary and I've heard it being as low as $5 per point and as high as $20.

You don't have to use them all either. I used about half of my points for that year and sold the rest back under the program. I ended up getting a good vacation at OKW for the $500 deposit. That along with the $750 for 75 pts went toward the down payment. That was in Oct - come april I had another 150 pts! Yah! Hoo!

Oops, sorry all, haven't bought yet. Told you I was new at this, I just got the informational package, but seriously thinking about it. We originally looked at OKW 6/7 years ago but didn't buy. But now with 2 young kids, we've been in Disney every other year since, so I'm really giving it some serious thinking. The rate hunting and planning is beginning to wear me down.

Welcome to DIS! Good luck on your decision to purchase. We bought 270 points in June 2002 and added on 30 more in October. This board is a great place and you will get you questions answered quickly!

Take your time and make the decision that is right for you, but I seriously doubt anyone here will be trying to talk you out of DVC. Many people here have been very helpful in my DVC education. You are certainly among friends here.

Now, I am experiencing the worst part of the resale purchase process--waiting for Disney to approve the sale or buy it out from under me.
