Magic Your Way tickets - fingerprint id?

Hello all!

I'm just wondering if anyone knows.... we're planning to go to WDW this summer, and although we will be in Orlando over a week, I don't think we'll actually go to WDW for more than 5 days. However, there's always a chance that we'll go again next year, or I may go with another friend. I'm wondering, do these new tickets require fingerprinting (or whatever that feature is called) like the annual passes? The reason I ask is that I could save by buying a 10-day ticket, but of course, if my (not quite yet) husband doesn't want to go next year, I'd want to be able to give the ticket to another friend.

Thanks for the help!

The new tickets are coded after the first use. If you are worried about the second ticket, just buy one 10 day non-exp hopper and one 4-5day base exp ticket. this should save you some money. Good luck

Thanks!
Sorry - what does it mean they are coded? Does that mean they require the fingerprint ID? So clueless :(

It's a bone-scan ID and not a fingerprint. After inserting the ticket into the slot on the turnstyle, you place the "pointer" and middle fingers into a scanner. The theory is that the structure of the bones in those two fingers is unique to you. You would not be able to sell the remaining days on the ticket to someone else because their scan would not match yours.

I was just wondering because I'm going to buy 10day premium no expire tickets for my family and was hoping to let my sis and her family go one day to a water park on our tickets and they don't have the money for better tickets. It would be a treat for them and no big deal for me (plus I'd babysit the baby so her two older sons could have fun with mom!) Do they have the scan at the waterparks/Disneyquest/PI?

Also, what about my kids? Won't their bone structure change?

Thanks,
Esther

The new tickets are non transferable. Whoever uses the ticket the first time will have the finger scan and from then on, ONLY that person can use that ticket.

Okay this is the first time I've heard about the finger scan thing... Are you guys joking? It just sounds a little wacky, that's all...

With the new tickets and biometrics (the finger scan), sharing tickets is gone. Your name will be on the ticket and if the scan doesn't work, you will need to show id.

All the new tickets are biometrically encoded to the individual user -- save for the 3-9 year old passes. As well, one must sign the back of the pass prior to use. DW had a problem with her pass at DS last Friday and had to show photo ID with signature matched to that on her pass to gain admission to the park.

It's not wacky at all -- this will, hopefully, put an end to the abuses to the system.

The "finger scan thing" has been used for some time for people who have Annual Passes, Fun in the Sun Passes, and perhaps some others. It is a way to ensure that only the original purchaser uses the ticket.

I am really torn about using it for regular passes. It seems a shame that if I want to give remaining days on a hopper to a friend or family member, that I cannot do so. I know that the tickets were always labeled "non-transferable" - but my understanding was this was to discourage the resale market. But this is discouraging the GIFT market! :earseek:

so the ones that use the old hopper tix will not have to get finger scans correct??

I don't believe so.

My thoughts exactly! Big bummer for us since we always over-buy on hoppers for the next time, or for inviting family or friends for a day on us. In fact I have 12 hopper days in my safe at home right now. This stinks for us!

I personally think this is a night mare! I can't even begin to imagine how long it now takes to get into the parks.
And what about the children's bone structure.....ummmm some kids grow a lot between 3 and 9.
I hate this entire new change! The old way was just fine. We are now not going this year because of all of this. We usually only do about 4 days in the park. But the tickets are so much more money than if we bought the 10 day ticket in the long run. At least if I am understanding it correctly. We can't swing 4- 10 day passes right now. So......no big deal, disney will be there another year. We are going to go else where.

I'm not thrilled about it as others have said I buy the passes for others so really preferred the ones that could be used by another person. I'd like my parents to go with me and would have bought 10day tickets knowing they wouldn't use them all but that I could have let someone else use them later. I'll probably opt to do non-park hopper passes for them without the no-expiration optin.

The passes for a 3 to 9 yo will not require a finger scan. We've had AP's for a couple of years and it's never been required for them either. I also think that in the case of a child even with an adult pass they would overlook it.

I'm wondering how strict they are on the signature. We are going to be using AP's so it really doesn't matter for us but will for guests.

The time to get into the parks last week was not at all long. CMs were opening up new turnstiles as the lines grew and guests were processed very quickly. The machines will work even without CMs operating them -- slide in your MYW pass; get your fingers scanned -- when the match occurs the machine spits your ticket through; go through the turnstile and take your ticket.

If this system will help to solve the abuses that have been taking place and thereby help to keep admission costs lower, then I'm all for it. It's obvious that the old way wasn't fine. If it was working fine then I believe WDW would not have invalidated all 1 day park admisson tickets purchased prior to 2 JAN and not used by 8 JAN. As it is, our 10 day MYW pass will cover us for two trips -- it's a great bargain.

As for the signature -- DW's pass became demagnetized somehow and they required photo ID with signature to compare to that on her MYW pass. There were tables at the entry to MK for guests to sign their ticket media -- regardless of whether it was PH, PHP or MYW.

I do not know if anyone has covered this, but make sure you make a copy of your tickets and keep it some place safe. if you end up losing your ticket this can possibly get you a replacement. i have a ten day ticket, but will only be using it 3-4 days this trip. its easy to misplace them when "storing" them for the next trip.

Neil,
Do you mean that everyone going thru the gate was stopped and ask to sign each ticket? Donna
