We just returned from a 9 night trip. We own VWL, but banked points as the kids wanted to try SOG since the rehab. We enjoyed SOG, but missed staying at the Lodge. We took the kids twice to eat at Wispering Canyon, which was fun.
We had a some magic happen on our second visit to Wispering Canyon. We were seated, and when our server came over to take our drink order (which of course was a round of bottomless shakes!), another server walked over and asked my hubby if he was in the military. He replied "Yes, the Air Force." She then got all choked up and told us that our meal was free, and to order whatever we wanted! She then proceeded to explain that a gentelman had just left the restaurant and had asked her to disperse the remainder of his meal "wishes" out to families. His first choice would be military families. She said he had already treated 3 families while he dined there and asked her to give away what was left over! We have 3 kids(14, 11 and 5) and my MIL was also with. She said that they were all adult wishes so even the kids HAD to order off the adult menu! We tend to split meals often, so the kids thought it was great.
She then explained that we all had to order an appetizer, a meal and a dessert! We left with many "to go" containers, it was a good thing we had a fridge in our room. We had enough left over for dinner that night also!
I have 2 questions about the wishes meals......Is the tip included?(we of course left a very nice tip, but I was hoping the server got one with the wishes also) and How can anyone eat that much food? I do not think I would even want to do a dining plan if it were offered for DVC, I would have to be rolled home from Disney World!
If by chance the person that gave away the meal wishes on 2/17 is reading this board.........We want to thank you very much! We were treated to a meal unlike any we have ever had at Disney, and our kids will remember it always!
