We didn't do any of the workshops. We just marched before the parades. After applying for Disney World, we waited a few months to hear and didn't know if we got it or not, but then they actually called while we were in rehearsal and told our directors we did. Ha, nothing like being in the office with the two of them when they got that call. (I ended up doing more office work than playing because with two directors, one for band and orchestra and one for highschool and middle school orchestra who travelled between the schools, the office was a mess and nothing was ever organized. So I was more of secretary than student for them,

)... Anyway, we did an amazing job, they were really impressed by well behaved we were the entire time, nothing ever went wrong. They ended up giving us each two of the shirts and three of the pins afterwards because it was so hot and they felt that when the gate wouldn't open at the end for us that we earned it. I had been carrying the american flag and knew something was up when they slowed us down and the gate wasn't opening (have never seen them have that problem before, after 20 trips of sitting on the curb for parades and watching it open), so they moved me and the rest of the front row (banner and 1 director) through the single door gate and has us help them open the gate all the way.
I had been in the office answering the phone a month or so later because our one director was stuck in traffic on the highway and didn't know how to take backroads from where he was (not from the area, and since I grew up here and my dad is a fireman, I know my way around where he was a lot better than anyone else did). So when the phone rang I didn't even think and just picked up without looking at the number and asked "Where are you now"... the reply- "Um, I'm in
Disneyland..." WHOA! "OH! Sorry, I thought you were the orchestra director. May I ask who's calling and how may I help you?" Needless to say I was really shocked. We didn't even know Disneyland had the same type of program until they contacted the directors and asked them if we would be willing to come out about the same time the following year and march for them. That was an amazing feeling.
