Hi! My family & I will be staying at the Wilderness Lodge and visiting the Magic Kingdom for 2 days in December. Any recommendations on good sit down restaurants? Do we absolutely have to have reservations or can we wing it?

Okay, first of all I always make reservations so that I never have the slightest chance of having to wait. There's nothing like having to carry a tired, hot, hungry toddler for another twenty minutes while standing with hurt feet and a painful back. It doesn't cost you anything to make the reservation or if you don't make it. It's just a hold.

Now with that said. Depending on who you are going with and what kind of meal you are looking for here's what I would suggest.

Tony's Town Square - very nice semi-elegant italian food - Lady and the Tramp decor.

Crystal Palace - character buffet, great for little ones and above. Great variety of foods with the Hundred Acre Woods friends.

Liberty Tree tavern is very nice, character family style meal. However sometimes the service and portion sizes can be unrealizable.

Whispering Canyon Cafe - this is at the WL. I haven't gone there yet (going in Dec), but I hear it's great. There's a skillet that's to die for.

My favorites that I would recommend to you is either O'Hana or Chef Mickey's.
O'Hana - book about an hour before the fireworks - it's at the Polynesian and serves delicious flame cooked hunks of meats and shrimp. You have an amazing view of the castle expecially during the fireworks.

Chef Mickey's - character bufet, excellent variety of food, amazing desert bar. Whooping it up for everyone.

Read the reviews on the allears.net and here and then decide for yourself. Good Luck

we love the royal table at cinderella's castle. the atmosphere is awesome & the food is so good, i love the salmon & my hubby the pot pie. the character interaction is fun too. crt requires a reservation & prepay in advance.

I would make reservations, that way you are sure to get a seat and not turned away.

We have been to CP the last three trips and we love it! The food is wonderful, very fresh. I am not to keen on the dessert selections, the cakes are too dry and sweet so I eat a few toll house chocolate chip cookies! Great location too, when we are done eating there is a CM there to take pictures of you in front of the castle.

I really love the food at Crystal Palace. Prime Rib buffet, salmon, roast chicken and this awesome alfredo. Yummy we go every time not just for the characters mainly the foood.

I would make reservations. But the problem is the sit downs at MK are basically average. You're much better off hoping on the monorail and hitting Chef Mickeys at the Contemporary or, Kona Cafe or 'ohana at the Polynesian. I million times better than the park, especially 'ohana. And its a lot easier than you think.

Going to the Wilderness Lodge for the Whispering Canyon cafe is good too, but not quite as easy in my book as hoping on the monrail.

We really enjoyed Liberty Tree Tavern ... it's a family-style Thanksgiving-type meal. The food was very good!

Crystal Palace is good w/ a lot of food selection but is a buffet ... not sure if that's what you want.

We were disappointed in Tony's ... food is mediocre.

Unless you have small children I wouldn't suggest Chef Mickey's ... food was pretty bland there too (worse than Tony's).

Well, since you will be at the WL, the Whispering Canyon is great for breakfast or dinner. The Trail's End Buffet is good at FW and you can walk there from your hotel or take the boat. I was not crazy about Crystal Palace and probably wouldn't return for dinner. The Liberty Tree was very good and would go back. In the MK resorts, I am probably most fond of 1900 Park Fare for both dinner and breakfast and I love the characters they have, and Chef Mickey's (only been there for breakfast) is very good as well. Allearsnet.com has a listing of menus to help you choose.

Thank you for your input. I have a DD7 & DS4. I don't particulary care for buffets so I guess that will narrow down my choices. The Whispering Canyon at WL looks great and right up my alley. I'll check out allears.

Thanks!
