Magic kingdom problems

I'm sorry you had trouble at MK. That is the most difficult park for us too. Just out of curiosity, was there a difference between using DAS vs FP+ and the treatment?

We have definitely noticed that when we use DAS, we are usually stopped at the FP+ machine to let all the standby through. But when we have the attraction as a FP+, that rarely happens. .

No, I noticed no difference between the two, but honestly we mostly relied on fast pass+ as it worked so well, at the end of an 11 day trip I think we only used the DAS for 8ish rides. We were also given 3 additional fast passes each when I went to town hall, and test track broke down when we were on it and it was a SUPER long wait to get off and they gave us 2 each for EPCOT, so really it wasn't needed as much.

The only place to allow ds to sit inside to wait for the buzzer to go off was CP and that was after some debate. I was going to send he and dh to First Aid to wait, but they didn't like that idea since all members need to be present to be seated. Instead, they allowed he and dh to sit right inside the door on a seat. There were a couple other people sitting there as well.

Nobody is allowed inside BOG before the buzzer goes off. I always bring an umbrella for ds. And it helps minimally. He uses a cooling vest, spray mister, ice, and cool cloth to stay cool. I keep a cooler with Frozen water bottles to keep those items cold. When the bottles melt, first aid will help me to keep the "ice packs" frozen. They work by chemical reaction and freeze at 58 degrees..

I'm sorry but this is unacceptable to me. Last year we went to BOG for dinner and it was raining. THey let EVERYBODY wait in the lobby. This is where there needs to be some flexibility, consideration, and not a one size fits all policy.

Letting everyone wait due to rain is completely different than allowing some people to wait because of heat.

Glad you didn't notice a difference. We don't use the DAS often. We are AP and I think in the 2 months before ds' renewal card we used it a total of 4 times. FP+ has worked well for us too because we can only spend a few hours in the park at a time.

BOG isn't the only place we run into problems with sun. The Plaza Restaurant only has outdoor waiting. LTT and Tony's have indoor waiting.

M&G with outdoors characters are nearly impossible for ds, so we save that for a cold day in winter. We only go to the AK in the winter because of lack of AC too.

I'm pretty sensitive when it comes to diabetic issues. My dad was a T1 diabetic and we had some pretty severe scares throughout his life, including a near deadly car accident.

I think it'll just be differing opinions about this, honestly. For something like this, I'd prefer a hard and fast rule. People can know what to expect and it's easier for the CMs to enforce.

I agree, however there is a difference between getting out of the heat and being in a medical crisis. Someone who is having obvious medical issues should be allowed to wait. It wasn't that it was just hot. We go every year in July, it's always hot.

CMs are not medical personnel, and they aren't trained to determine when someone is having a medical crisis, and when someone just wants to get out of the heat.

And if you go every July, then I don't understand why your companion wasn't prepared to deal with her heat related medical needs.

Bottom line, it is not the responsibility of CMs to manage the medical issues of guests.

This really isn't Disney's issue. Disney isn't responsible for managing your medical condition. Carry quick acting sugar, and you'll be fine.

Of course it's not Disney's responsibility, but that day was literally 105 & her sugar was 47!!! Having her sit in the cool lobby opposed to the baking sun would have helped her feel a bit better. It wasn't an unreasonable request.[/QUOTE]

You were worried about getting her out of the sun. That would not have been my primary concern. It would have been asking where I could get some OJ or Coke quickly. While there are castmembers that understand diabetes I don't expect them to know and am quite specific when asking for assistance. I need some quick acting sugar preferably in a liquid form. If that doesn't work I ask that they get EMTs to me. I do not walk to first aid as that would only lower my sugar to a more dangerous level. So far I have been quickly helped when I have had lows. I now make sure to carry fast acting sugar with me in the form of a bottle of coke as well as glucose tabs. BTW being in AC would not really have helped her feel better. She would still be dangerously low.
Perhaps you felt it was a reasonable request but it was there wrong request in the first place.

It wasn't the wrong request, she nor I are new to diabetes. She had already taken glucose tabs, but as they were starting to work it would have helped to get her out of the sun as she was dizzy, sweating, and slurring her words. If you are a diabetic you know what that feels like, getting out of the sun while waiting for her sugar to go up would have helped. We didn't just sit there & do nothing for her sugar that would be insane.

If it helps you feel any better I learned last year that the CM's at BOG get enough requests to get inside that they automatically say no without really even listening to you. Not sure if that's good, but you can know it isn't personal.
Last year there was a miscommunication after we checked in and got onto the bridge. The CM didn't check us in correctly and somehow we weren't in the system as waiting... so other groups kept going in and there we were... 15, 30, 45 minutes later... watching people who arrived a full half hour after us go in. We asked a couple times and were brushed off. Finally one of them noticed we had been there for a while and she said "well why didn't you say something?" when I agreed we had been waiting a long time. (um yeah, those few times I asked if we were near the top of the list yet?)

I have been a type 1 diabetic for over 30 years and have lived in So Florida longer. I can say that AC does nothing to make me comfortable if I am low. I continue to sweat, be dizzy and slur my speech until my sugar comes up into a decent range. I am uncomfortable no matter where I am. Of course we don't keep our AC at freezer level like northerners seem to do. Having it set at 72-76 is fine for us. And it is HOT right now.

I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience at the magic kingdom . Can you PM me so I can give you some information .

We had a similar experience at MK. I was never treated so rudely as I was by a CM at Town Hall regarding my DDs medical disability. It was awful.

I find it VERY hard to believe that they were trying to "force" 4 adults into a boat at Peter Pan! I have NEVER seen 4 people in the same seat on that ride.
We are a family of four. Kids are 9 &11 and we were crammed into one boat on Peter Pan and the me Ariel's Under the Sea ride. We refused when we visited the MK again on another day.

I tried to PM you, but I received a message that stated you chose not to receive private messages.
