Magic Kingdom Photo shoot questions

i hope so too!! its a long way to come from the uk for a reshoot!!

I hear ya' sister! That trans-atlantic flight is a KICKER! I can't wait to see your new pics and see the "before and after" to see how far they've come!

...and I still have to thank you for pointing me in the direction of the "Dainty Bess" shoes. I loved them!

I didnt get them in the end!! I had trainers!!

If I can bear to look at my old ones I will post them but I doubt it! Too Shocking

We had Ty and I think his photos were great. Amy also, assisted him that morning, and she is very sweet. I have seen the photos from one couple that she took, and I think they're great, too.

But, decide for yourself.

Also, we had our photos taken on Jan 21st, and SR was 7:18 am that day. We took the pics in front of the castle first, and then went inside, then to the carousel, so the rest of our castle pics were as the sun was rising. Personally, I think light turns out better...so I think you should stick with the 6:00am time.

One more tip, Lisa (of the Leisher / Reese BP) gave her photographer a list of pics she wanted during her bridal shoot. I thought that was a great idea!
Your pictures look beautiful! I have heard mix things about the DIsney photgraphers and to use outside vendors but all the pictures I have seen of Ty so far look great. Your pictures really came out amazing and your dress is beautiful!

I think everyone is right to be cautious, but I have to at least give MY perspective (because that's the only one I have that isn't second hand).

Even though I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the pictures Ty did for us, I don't think he liked us particularly. I don't think he DISLIKED us, but I didn't get the "ooh! I LOVE this couple" vibe. This could be the fact that we were late and he had to call up to the room for us, it could be that we, too, did not use Disney Photography for our wedding or that it was 30 degrees out! :lmao: Or it could be that I was being over-sensitive.

I did think Amy was more "personable," but come on ladies...she IS a girl!

That being said, Ty did talk to us about our impression of Disney photography and of some of the negative press received recently. I really think he was doing this as a "polling" mechanism, because as many have said, it seems DPS is "stepping up." I think when he questioned us it did come across more like the Spanish Inquisition, but I really got the feeling he was trying to help the image of his organization. He told us he'd worked for DPS for 11 years, so even though he has his own business...he has a lot vested in Disney!

There are some shots that I wish he had been more creative on, but then again, as Lisa pointed out, overall my shots were great...and I agree that his photoshop work has beaten anything I've seen.

I think whether you pick Ty, Amy or Mike (is that Strickland? He did our Escape wedding in June!), it's best to be up-front about your expectations. I know the Roots are adored on this site (and should be), but after our E-pics, I had to tell them I didn't like all the crooked shots! I felt like a JERK critiquing them, but then again, I was paying for the pics. And so far, our wedding pics are all great! I think Lisa did an excellent job being up front at her MK Shoot (from what she wrote). And her pictures bear witness!!

I'm really sorry that some people have had bad experiences! I was nervous for that reason, but here's to hoping they've fixed some of their issues (and that Sarah's re-shoot is GORGEOUS!)

Heidi, Thank you for your honesty. I think this is what makes the DIS board so great. I think that us as apst brides need to do as much as we can to help the future ones. I had requested Ty in the beginning and then I had heard from more then one person, like 4 actually, that they were unhappy. That Ty was not overly friendly, one couple (who was also plus sized as my husband and I are got really bad vibes on thier shoot. They felt belittled and they felt that Ty did not take as many lovey dovey shots of them, they also felt that he did not do certain poses because they were plus sized. Well I had a stack of printed pictures I had stolen off of the Disboards to give to my photographer and I wanted those pictures! I needed them! My Castle pictures were the most important pictures of my wedding. I love the Castle like no body else...ok ok probally some of you, but seriously I wanted good Castle Pictures! So I got scared and started researching more and more photogrpahers. I fell in love with Amy's pictures. The funniest thing, when I handed her my stack of "must haves" she had taken more then 1/2 of them and reconized them! Not all that being said I know people have off days, but I couldn't risk that someone's off day be MY DAY!

I do think DPS is steping up and I hope they only get better from here on out. Like Heidi's photoshoping was to die for. I think it should be standard with the cost of this shoot!

Good luck to everyone and rember these are your once in a life time pictures!

Lisa, you're right!

I think the brides who advised you are right about Ty's personality. He doesn't make you feel like he's thrilled to be shooting you, and I totally think Amy would from meeting her. Honestly, these photographers do it every day (and boy is it early), but it's once-in-a-lifetime for us. I will say he warmed up as things went along, but DH is pretty funny and willing to try anything, so I think that made his job easier.

I didn't mind Ty not being a cheerleader because the proof was in the pudding, so to speak, but you're absolutely right. Consistency is KEY! They can't be off on YOUR day and you were smart to be cautious! And you're the one paying the money up front, so who cares what you look like. If you want to show up in a pink tu-tu with your hair on fire...it's YOUR pictures! Everyone should get their best.

I'm just really hopeful that future brides won't have to wrestle with the question of consistency...and they can pick their photographer based solely on personal style preference. I'm an optimist...so I'm hoping Ty's work with us (and your pics with Amy!) will stay that way.

Disclaimer for those who haven't met Ty---he's not an ogre...just not a cheerleader personality. Neither am I, to be quite honest!

lisa- do you still have all those pics?? I would love to talk them for our reshoot as the castle is the main reason we wanted the shoot

I can give you my email if it helps??

I do not have them....I have some here... http://flickr.com/gp/goldeelox9/n6r9Jd But not all of them. I also took out a bunch. This was my working list per se for a while. Also if there are any of my pictures (we got lots of caslte pictures) let me know. I will send you a link to the ones I have.

THANKS for that. going to copy your mouse hat one as well!! love that shot!

Are your pics still online?

Yeah, I knew that, but your PJ led me to them! So, I still owe you! The shoes you wore were gorgeous, too! Maybe in a few years you can bear to post them!

From our contacts with them in advance of our VR through our MK portrait session with Amy to post-event/production, we have been so impressed with DPS. We are really excited to see our final product, but the proofs on-line and our proof book have impressed the heck out of us.

Our sign in is Keener VR Bridal Portrait & 1971

I have to say, Amy was very friendly and patient and very efficient. There were issues with my bouquet that was delivered to MK and she took it back at the end along with Howard's bouteniere to have those issues resolved. I can't say enough how grateful we are that she was our photographer.

It seems alot of brides switched their requests from Ty to Amy. I would like to do that as well, but really didn't want to come off as rude and was worried they would ask me why!

Any advice you can give me on doing this????

Back in 2007, I had heard some great things about Ty, now it seems that most of his reviews are negative. I understand that DIS is a small number of brides and that there is some positive reviews. But honestly, there are far too many negative reviews for me to feel comfortable still requesting him.

Any suggestions on how I should call DPS about swtiching my request?

It seems like Amy is becoming the best choice. I orginally requested Ty for my MK shoot, but he was unavailable so I ended up with Paul Looper. I am so thankful. I would recommend him, but he no longer works for DPS.

I saw a book of Ty's work at Carolyn Allen's and thought his portfolio was impressive. I think everyone has their own idea of photographic styles, too. It is so shocking to me that when people look at our MK proofs, absolutely, inevitably the ones people LOVE are the ones we don't like at all. Sometimes it really is just a matter of taste.

You don't need to explain anything, just email your planner and say you want to change your request!

We had Paul too - he was amazing! It's so sad he's not there anymore - I might have talked DH into a MK photo shoot on our first anniversary if he was there!! He even brought us a gift because he knew we'd requested him - I think based on Summer's pics. He worked his tail off getting in all the shots I'd asked for! :yay:

I just did this back in Dec. Just tell your planner that you would like to change your request. This was at a mini PS and she didn't even blink.
