I just made a friendly wager with my daughter's friend's dad - LOL - I said that the Magic Kingdom (and also Epcot and I guess MGM too, but we were talking about the MK specifically) did fireworks every night. He said they didn't when he was there in May 2002. And furthermore - he said the park closed at 6 pm then. I said that he was crazy on both accounts - that they ALWAYS have fireworks every night (except if it's raining or weather related) and that they would not have closed so early during a peak month.

He says he's always right.
I say I'm right.

Help! He thinks he was there May 13-16, 2002 and that there was not a related weather issue - they just didn't do fireworks - he expected them to, but they didn't. I think he's mistaken - LOL

Any dis-experts that can set us both straight? LOL I told him I would send him the thread (he doesn't read this board!) to show him who's right.

Thanks!

Your friend is correct. Fire In The Sky, the old MK fireworks show did not run nightly. And I believe the 6pm closing, too. Post-9/11/01, hours were cut back considerably. MK closed at 6pm at least one night when we visited in September '02.

I dug out stuff from my May 2002 trip. We were there May 4 to 10. The MK hours for May 13 to 15 were (update only goes up to the 15th):

May 13 (Mon) 9am - 7pm
May 14 (Tues) 9am - 6pm
May 15 (Wed) 9am - 6pm

Fantasy in the Sky:

none - earlier dates:
May 4 9:30pm
May 11 10:00pm

So he was right......

RATS! It was for $10 but it was more his "you don't know me very well like my wife does - and that I'm always right" quote that really got to me - LOL

So NO fireworks either? Now I know why we go in July! :rotfl:

Well, just to keep things in perspective, in May '02 we were only about 8 months removed from the 9/11 tragedy. People were still afraid to fly. Tourism was really hurting.

Disney slashed the operating hours to control their losses. Even Extra Magic Hours were totally eliminated for about a year becuase they just couldn't justify opening parks an hour early.

Since "Wishes" debuted in October '03, it's been shown just about every night. Regarding the hours, we're going to WDW this coming May. The week we visit the Magic Kingdom is open until at least 9pm every night...10pm one night...and midnight another night for EMH.

Wishes however, is run every night, unlike FITS. So technically YOU are right. YOu didnt say they "used" to run it every night did you? If you said they "do" have them every night, you are right.
