Magic Kingdom Christmas tree to be late this year

Last year, in order to accommodate a new stage in Town Square for Regis and Kelly to host the Walt Disney World Very Merry Christmas Parade for TV, the Magic Kingdom's Christmas tree was first erected in the Rose Garden near the Central Plaza hub. After the filming of the parade, the tree was taken down and moved to its usual spot in Town Square. Apparently, the Imagineers were not happy with the way that it worked out.

We've been informed that the Magic Kingdom's Christmas Tree will not be going up until after the recording of the parade. This means that Magic Kingdom guests who visit to see the holiday decorations and who arrive before December 4 may be disappointed by the tree's absence.

The parade is being taped on Dec. 1, Dec. 2, and Dec. 3. I would guess that the Town Square Christmas Tree would go up on Dec. 4.

I always look forward to seeing this tree but will miss it this year as I check out on Dec. 3.

I check out on the 3rd too.

I did send an email expressing my disappointment. I doubt if Disney will change their minds, but I hope they do. I can't imagine seeing all the other decorations, going to MVMCP, and then NOT seeing the tree. It doesn't make sense.

I just received a response from Disney:

Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World Resort.

What you have heard is exactly that, a rumor. As in the past, the
Christmas Tree in the Magic Kingdom will be up by Thanksgiving.

Traditionally starting at Thanksgiving, the Walt Disney World Resort
will celebrate the holidays with more than 1,400 decorated trees, 7
million lights and plenty of garland, ribbon and holiday carols.
Returning holiday traditions will include the Country Bear Christmas
Special, Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights, parades at the Magic
Kingdom Park and the Candlelight Processional at Epcot.

We also encourage you to visit the "Special Events" section of our Web
site, closer to the fall season, for updated information. You will be
given a listing of events and activities currently scheduled to take
place in our theme parks and resort areas.



The annual Christmas Parade at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida
is televised Christmas Day by the various ABC affiliates nationwide.
The broadcast is pre-recorded and does not reflect the actual parade
schedules in the Magic Kingdom on Christmas Day.

To provide the type of flawless broadcast that is expected, filming
production schedules for the annual Christmas Special are not released
in advance. We are sorry that our response is not a more favorable
one, but we thank you for understanding.

DisneyGirl: Thanks for posting your response from Disney! It will be interesting to see what actually happens with the MK Christmas Tree. I check-in at Pop on 11/26 and was looking forward to seeing the MK tree.

Disney's comment that "filming production schedules for the annual Christmas Special are not released in advance" is not correct. The dates of the taping of the Christmas Day parade were included in the fall issue of the Mickey Monitor (AP newsletter).

Thank goodness!! I thought it seemed a little far-fetched that Disney would not put the Christmas Tree up during the Christmas season -- that would just be wrong!! But, hopefully, they put it back where it belongs and not off to the side like last year. MUCH better in the middle by the entrance. We'll see...

I'm going to MVMCP on Nov 13th.....Hope I won't be disappointed. I'm sure Disney will have put up decoration for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party on Nov13th, or why bother calling it a Christmas PArty without decorations?
