I'm a new Magic Key holder and we really want to go to the Toontown opening. We noticed that January 27th is sold out already for the launch of the 100 year celebration. We have a trip the week before Jan 18-21. Should we be worried about opening date selling out by then?

No, chances are MKs will be available the night before as people cancel reservations to not get hit with a missed park pass. I've never not seen a day reopen the night before/day of that was previously sold out.

Oh really? How do you feel about week days vs weekends? Especially with the southern CA discount tickets they just released? Which would you rather go on?

Not sure what you mean about a trip the 18-21 and opening day (27) - are you asking if your trip dates will be sold out (hoping you already made your reservations) or the 27th - the 27th is still showing availability for single day tickets, including the SoCal ones.

As PP said, often availability opens up the night before. On a launch date I am not sure - perhaps someone who wanted to go on the first day of the Holiday decor could comment.

I may be a weirdo but my two recent weekend visits (Sunday in Oct and Sat in Nov) were actually better than my weekday ones, I think because more than one MKey type was blocked. So I personally would lean toward a weekend in January prior to the 100th, and check the MK block out dates. But that is based on absolutely nothing concrete. LOL

I have an Inspire key, and the 27th is currently open for DCA only, so you could always book that and then hop to DLR after 1 p.m. (IDK what key you have.)

That said, the Toontown opening is in March. The 27th is ONLY Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway part of Toontown that's opening. The rest will be walled off.

We aren't trying to attend on the 27th, only March 8th. Just worried if it will be sold out by the time we use our first day of our January trip.

That was going to my next question, if weekends are better than weekdays. In January we're going for 5 days and we will hit Fri/Sat/Sun. For the Toontown opening, it's in the middle of the week so it's tougher to get both Saturday and Sunday in for work reasons (can't take off too many days at once).

I wouldn't want to be anywhere near DL on Jan 27, personally. Go the next day or Sunday.
We're going the weekend before from Jan 18th-Jan 22. We were just worried about March 8th selling out by the time we hit our first day since Jan 27th sold out so quickly and is a similar event. Since we can only hold 6 reservations at a time, we'd have to book March 8th on Jan 18th right after we check in at the parks. Wondering if that would be too late. I hope I'm making sense!

Ah, gotcha. DL might sell out on the 8th itself, again vloggers and influencers will rush those reservations, but DCA would probably still have availability and then you hop.

Like PP said, I personally would not want to be anywhere near the parks on a launch day - the bloggers and influencers ruin the experience for me. Not to mention the crowds will likely be insane!

The days the enchant keys are blocked have been my most pleasant in the parks if they hit on a Saturday or Sunday. But it sounds like that may be the key you have so honestly I don’t think it makes that huge of a difference anymore. I always plan on crowds but try and avoid opening days and often weekends as previously mentioned.

So you can always park hop? Even if one park is sold out? I thought I read that you could only do that if both parks were available at the time of booking?

You can always hop. There is fine print there just in case but I have never heard of anyone not being able to hop.

Hopping has never been unavailable since the parks reopened after the pandemic closure.

A park can block park hopping if it reaches capacity but this has never happened at Disneyland since the reservation system was implemented. Being "sold out" is just Disney artificially preventing "unfavorable" people from getting reservations.
