Magic Key Program

Hmm, interesting. If I buy a two-day ticket (not the three-day CA one) for August 14 and 21, would I then be able to upgrade from those to a new Dream Key and merely pay the difference (about $1,200)?

No, because you have to upgrade before the end of the second day you use the ticket and the new passes don't go on sale until the 25th. You cannot upgrade a wholly used ticket.

Well now the big problem is... what will people call the small subset of entitled, not-so-nice pass holders now?

We had such a good one for a long time that I won't repost here (the one that rhymes with grass, mole).

I’ll be curious to see how upgrades will work with existing reservations. Hopefully if you upgrade at the ticket booth they can keep your existing reservations….
I'm wondering about that as well. I don't have existing reservations yet but I can start making them Aug 10, before the Key is available. But then can I cancel the ticket portion of my package without losing the park reservations?

It also depends on WHEN key reservations can be made. I’ve seen media outlets stating 90 days so if you book using your current tickets at day 120 but buy the Key at day 105, would you lose the reservations? I can’t find anything solid from Disney itself that says 90 vs 120 days (or that suggests Key holders with hotel reservations get treated differently ie how WDW treats AP holders who are onsite vs not).

I don’t want to start an argument but…

—Disney doesn’t want APs crowding the park because they don’t spend money. They’re going to get rid of the cheaper passes. No more SoCal passes. They’re going to stop having the payment plan option to reduce the number of APs.—

I’d say the new pass options do NOT reflect that line of thinking.

The fine print does say that there will be a limited number of Magic Key Passes available, but I think that just CYA language. I’d be surprised if any tier ever actually “sells out”.

The most potentially limiting factor is the reservation system, but whether availability is a major issue or not remains to be seen.

I don’t think Disney itself ever said that, but the many non Disney vloggers and influencers that often go to Disneyland.

Can we buy the passes with Disney giftcards??
Someone posted a chat response on Instagram that said they can process one gift card over the phone, or multiple gift cards at the ticket booth. But according to that CM, you have to call or buy in-person to use them.

As always, take those phone/chat CM responses with a grain of salt.

Has the 90-day window been confirmed? So that regular ticket buyers can reserve at 120 days out, but Key holders can only reserve at 90 days?

No. There is no officially confirmed booking window information at this time.
