I just read that the magic will be going in dry dock in September 2007. We sail on September 1st. Does this mean we will be on the Wonder not the Magic? Just wondering.

Noelle

No it doesn't. The ship does not spend the entire month in dry dock - only the better part of a week. You have a five day cruise (after the Magic's return from Europe). It will drydock after your cruise.

Disney Cruise Line is booking 7-night cruises on the Disney Magic for September 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29, 2007.

The Disney Magic is scheduled for drydock from September 6-27, 2008.

Where did you read that the Disney Magic will be in drydock in September 2007? It appears that somebody is providing misinformation.

When the Disney Magic is in drydock, the Disney Wonder continues to operate 3- and 4-night cruises.

The special 5-night Bahamian cruise on the Disney Magic is September 1-6, 2008.

You are correct. I assumed that the OP meant 2008 because the Magic is not set for dry dock this year (I thought that the OP was simply trying to confirm whether or not the Magic [or Wonder] typically spends a whole month in drydock when it's scheduled to do so).

The Disney Magic is not going to Europe in summer 2008. The Disney Magic will return from the West Coast before the special 5-night Bahamian cruise on September 1, 2008.

Also, the Disney Magic will be unavailable for quite a bit longer than "the better part of a week" in September 2008 -- the dates are September 6-27, 2008.

I'm not trying to beat anybody up. I just want to correct any misinformation before it spreads.

Yes, Horace. I'm fairly certain that the OP knows that s/he won't be diverted from the Magic to the Wonder - either in 2007 or 2008 - due to any planned drydock that is being reported.

Its great having the ships here in drydock (Norfolk, VA) While taking the children to school they get a glimpse each morning. We all share our memories of time onboard. Sometime we go down to the seawall and try to find out our normal cabin by counting the windows (Deck 6, Room 6012). Sadly, by the end of the week we are all suffering from cruise withdrawals. It always results in my scheduling yet another cruise.

Actually, the OP specifically asked about September 2007 and specifically asked about being diverted from the Disney Magic to the Disney Wonder.

And I felt that other readers of this board should not get impression that the Disney Magic would go to drydock five days after returning from Europe this year.

I wanted to put in my own two cents and re-confirm that the Magic is going into drydock after our September 1 - 6, 2008 cruise. The Magic is coming back from the West Coast (via Panama Canal) and then we embark. After our cruise, she is on her way to Virginia as mentioned on here for drydock. We had been warned she was going into drydock after our cruise, but decided on the cruise anyways.

Usually drydock is two weeks (14 days), including the time it take to get to Virginia and back. They are refurbishing the ship all the way there and back.

:goodvibes Bon Voyage!

Is being diverted from the Magic to the Wonder even possible? I am not aware of any instance where someone who was booked on the Magic for a specific cruise being diverted to the Wonder due to a planned drydock. (I suppose it's conceivable that if one ship or the other was experiencing mechanical difficulties and needed an unscheduled drydock, DCL may try to accommodate some passengers on the other ship, but given the bookings and completely different itineraries, this seems unlikely.)

Do you know if this has ever happened, Horace?

DCL has always left open the timeframes needed for a scheduled drydock.

However, they have moved people off a booked cruise if that timeframe was needed for something else, usually a private charter of some kind. When that happens, they will contact all parties affected and either offer to move them to a different cruise on either ship or a no-penalty cancellation.

Getting bumped from a Disney cruise because of a private charter would completely suck. The least DCL could do is offer a substantial discount for the re-booked cruise.

I had also read somewhere the Magic would be in dry-dock September 2007. Now things/plans may have changed since printing but I guarantee it said dry dock September 2007 for the Magic. Maybe it was my Passporter that I read that? I've read so much and in so many places but I do remember reading it! :)

Just checked, page 39 of my Fifth Edition Passporter, at the bottom, reads, "For example, the Disney Magic will be in drydock in September 2007."

Guess something changed from when they wrote it, printed it and now?

I know they switched around years to accommodate something, but that switch was a while back, so your copy may have been right at some point, but needless to say your passporter info is now wrong.

We're on the 09.27.08 Magic cruise immediately following dry dock, and I'm sooo excited to be one of the first to see what enhancements they will have made and report back to all of you!

Dh and I are on the Magic from 8 Sept to 29 Sept 2007... and I better not have a "change in plans" from DCL.:rotfl2:

Like others have posted it WAS scheduled for September of this year, and that would have followed Disney's normal dry dock rotation. It was moved back for some reason. I was in the group of folks who thought dry dock was required every 2 years for an out of the water hull inspection, and I have seen that mention in some Travel Channel shows, but apparently either the law changed, or the cruise lines generally do it every two years, but may not have to do it the frequently.
