Magic Express

I called Disney today and told them I hadn't received anything yet and they said that is no problem at all... I just need to bring my luggage claim tags to the ME desk... as we already discussed here.

However, she did notice that I was coming from Canada and said if I had been flying out of Canada, I would have had to pick up my own bags at luggage claim because then I would have to take them through customs on my own. They are unable to do that...

Thankfully, I am flying out of Detroit so won't have to bother with customs. I can understand their perspective, they can't bring bags into the country for someone else, but I hadn't heard of this before!!!

This isn't true if you're flying from Toronto. When flying to the US from the Toronto airport, you clear customs in Canada. We flew to Orlando out of Toronto with Air Canada last May. We didn't get our ME tags, but it was no problem. We checked in at the desk at the Orlando airport, described our bags, and hopped on the ME bus. We checked into our room, then hit Animal Kingdom. When we got back to POP, our bags were in our room - just like magic.

It all went very smoothly and we're looking forward to doing it all again in a month!

CBear, I thought that Air Canada was not a participating airline, so even if you cleared customs at Pearson, you'd still have to pick up your bags.
Did you use ME resort check out returning home?

In May, was ME just starting to test the program?

We leave in 8 days and haven't got tags yet but are planning to pick up our bags anyway because of our late arrival.

I'm going to give ME a call to see if they changed their policy with AC passengers.

Okay, I called ME.

CBear has the correct information. The policy is still the same.

It's only when you return home using ME that you can't use Resort Airline Check-in when flying AC. In that case, you'd have to make sure your bags got on the ME bus yourself and check in at the airport with them as usual.

So anyone clearing customs in Canada can have ME pick up their bags.

Misslissa did you call ME direct 1-866-599-0951 to find out when the tags were sent out? They told me mine were just sent out on Monday, so I might get them before I leave.

You can use DME with any airline. Participating airline refers to the airlines that allow you to check you luggage and get BP in your resort for your trip back to MCO.

You put the yellow bar coded tags on your luggage. DME picks up your luggage behind the scenes and will deliver it to your resort. IF you clear customs at MCO you'll have to pick up your luggage, go through customs but the DME tags will eliminate the need to get your luggage at the second carousel.

We didn't see our bags from the time we checked in at Pearson, until we got to our room at PoP.

I think the 'not participating' part is more about coming home. We could not check our bags at PoP upon checkout, as many others were able to do. We had to grab our luggage from the ME bus once we got to the Orlando airport, and check in there, which was a real pain. A number of flights were cancelled and everyone was trying to make new reservations. Our flight was not affected, but we had to line up with everyone else, and by the time we were finally able to check in it was 15 minutes before our departure!

And yes, ME had just started a few weeks before we went so we were a bit nervous, especially as we hadn't received the special ME tags. But, no problems at all.

Would you use it again? We were thinking of picking up our own bags at baggage claim and bringing them with us on the bus if that is allowed. Any thoughts?

Yes, you can take your bags with you and yes, I'd use it again in a minute. Unfortunately, no trip in the near future for me.

Absolutely! I will be using it again, in 30 days :cool1:

Personally, I wouldn't bother picking up my own bags, just takes more time, and then I've got to the lug them around. It was so great to just have them delivered to the room.

We did both take carry on bags with a change of clothes, and toiletries, just in case. But I always do that wherever we travel. It's not the Disney ME service I worry about - checked luggage often can, and does arrive later, or not at all.

Got home last night and FedEx had delivered my ME tags! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: BUT, no coupon inside to get a free lanyard and ME Pin :confused3

I used them in Aug, and we're using them in 22 days  I found the service to be excellent! I wonder how long until Disney starts charging a "nominal fee"

MaryLiz, I think the free lanyard and pin expired at the end of October but you can always ask at the ME check in. That is where some people who did not receive their tags got their certificate.

Just got an email from home and fedex has delivered our tags. Can't wait for December 3rd to get here!

Hi everyone We leave on the first and I called about me tickets last week they said they sent out dec. 4 but havent recieved them yet. We only have three mail days left before we leave and am worried I was really looking forward to using them. They told me to take luggage to me desk and I can still use me. I can't wait to leave so much stress.
Christine :moped:

We leave on January 12th and we received our tags on Dec.21 by Fed Ex. A CM told me that we should have a special gift with our tags and if we did not receive it to let them know when we check in. What is this special gift?

Dh called on Dec 7th to make our ressie for ME for Feb. A week later a fed-ex package came with everything we needed. However DH gave them the wrong flight numbers for both flights. So I called to fix it on Dec 24th and they will be sending out new ones to fix it soon.

Cant wait to be there.

Is it Feb yet?

Hi

I have a silly question:
We received what we thought were DME tags but I'm thinking they might just be luggage tags that were apart of our pkg. :confused3 Could someone please describe what the DME tags look like?

Thanks

Our DME tags looked like the airport tags-long, rectangular, stuck bottom to top to make a loop- and were bright yellow! Hope that helps!
