Magic Express - Luggage Only?

Is it possible to have my luggage delivered using Magic Express even if we do not use the bus to get to WDW? I was thinking about renting a small car at the airport to use if we don't want to deal with the WDW transportation system. I understand that it can take over an hour to go from one resort to another. I'm not sure if all of our luggage will fit into a small car, therefore I was hoping to be able to have my bags go on ME while I pick up a rental at the airport.

i believe you have to take the bus. They check you in before you get inline for the bus. If you dont take the bus i dont think they deal with the luggage.

This has been asked before. No, Magical Express will not transport luggage without the owner.

OTOH, if you do want to get a rental car, there are a couple of alternatives. First, you can get the rental car at the airport while others in your party take Magical Express to WDW. They won't be able to take your luggage with them on ME, but you should be able to get yours into the rental.

Another possibility would be to rent a car on WDW property.

Luggage transport is a bonus for Guests using DME, it is not the primary purpose of the service.
You could instead rent a vehicle of the likely size that WILL hold all of you and all of your luggage.

That is strange. I hope I did nothing wrong, but when we made our arrangements, the person booking our ME SUGGESTED that we have tags sent to the guys in our party that were going to rent a vehicle. So, we did. Everything worked fine. They were able to go grab a car. We checked in at the ME desk. When we got to the bus, we just told them 2 of our party had gone for a car. No problem whatsoever. Hmmmmmmmmm

We're becoming more and more convinced that we should have a car during our trip Aug. 23 - 27. Our first and last days are lost to travel so we really have only 3 days at WDW and soooo do not want to waste precious time on the bus system. Can you advise where in WDW cars can be rented and which companies might be there? Our best case scenario would be to find a company that would let us drop off in Port Canaveral, but I'm not having luck finding any companies that have locations there...

Any help will be much appreciated.
