I plan my trip for next October and I intend to use the transport service "Magic Express. However on several sites there is a contradiction on my luggage: Should I take my bags or not when I arrive at the Orlando airport?

You will get tags for your luggage. Put these on before you check your luggage on your first flight! (Otherwise you never see your luggage to put these on later) When you get to MCO, Disney will spot the yellow tag and move your bags to your room. .... Your job is to get on the Bus ...

We used the luggage tags when we went last September and had no issues with the service. We went out for the afternoon and when we returned to our room all of our bags were there waiting for us. It was nice not to have to lug them around as we have 2 young boys to worry about as well.

Assuming that you clear US Customs in Canada when you land in Orlando you can go right to the Magical Express check-in desk, because your flight would be like all the other flights landing in Orlando that are flying within the United States. Of course that's if you choose to put the yellow tags on your checked bags because you don't need to do that, since you can pick them up from baggage claim and then take them on the bus.

Good point about Customs ... I just assumed that everyone precleared ...

Arrival time makes a difference as well. I believe the cut-off for ME picking up your bags is 10pm. If you arrive later than that, the bags are your responsibility.

I misunderstood like the OP!!!:confused3

So this doesn't apply to Canadians flying out of Canada then? Because we deal with US Customs on this side of the border before flying?

3.International Guests flying into Orlando International Airport from another country must follow the U.S. Customs and Border Protection process and claim luggage after disembarking the plane. After completing the process, proceed to the Disney's Magical Express Welcome Center in the Main Terminal Building, B side, Level 1. Disney's Magical Express service will recollect your luggage and deliver it directly to your Walt Disney World hotel room within 4 hours after you check in at the resort. Luggage delivery service provided by Disney's Magical Express is available for flights arriving between 5:00 am and 10:00 pm daily. For airport arrivals after 10:00 pm, Guests may collect their luggage at Baggage Claim and transport it with them on the motor coach

That is correct. In fact last month when my family and I flew WestJet from Toronto - Orlando while we were in line to get our checked bags tagged, I noticed others with the yellow Magical Express stickers already on their checked bags. So obviously they were able to have them show up later on in their resort room and did not claim them at baggage claim in Orlando.

It's a heck of a lot easier to not have to worry about your baggage. You will receive the yellow bag tags in the mail. Magical Express is great. You land in Orlando, hop on a bus and go to your resort. You don't have to worry about finding your luggage, finding a taxi and paying $$$$.
Have a great trip!

We are using DME too for this trip, and really looking forward to it. This will be the first time we're using DME to get to WDW, usually just use it to go back to airport (because we generally fly into Ft. Lauderdale first, then MCO back home). So nice not to have to worry about picking up your luggage.

US Customs Pre-Clearance, is the key.

If you can pre-clear US Customs, you won't have to collect your bags upon arrival in Orlando.

If US Customs Pre-Clearance is not available at your last departure airport before entering the US, you will have to collect your bags in Orlando and clear US customs on arrival.

Just be aware that you may not see your bags for 3-4 hours after you arrive at MCO. My family prefers to take the time and pick up our own bags, take them with us to ME. This way our bags are on the same bus as us and we have them in our hands when we check in. This way you have everything when you arrive in your room. I agree with those who said you might want to use the ME fully if you are traveling with young children. Trying to juggle bags and small children is difficult. My kids were older and able to take their own bags. You may want to grab only one of your bags with your essentials ie) diapers, swim suits ect. with the new carry-on restrictions. It all really depends if you can go without what is in your bags for up to 4 hrs or not that should help you decide what is right for you.

Also keep in mind that you are not able to use the DME baggage service on your return trip though. You cannot check in your luggage at the resort if the final leg of your flight is to Canada. You must take your bags with you on the bus on your trip back and check them at the airport counter.

You didnt say which airline you were flying, be sure to check the participating airlines list to be sure your airline participates in the ME service . Also you can check your baggage at your hotel before your return flight ,once again depending on wether its a participating airline. Go to the Transportation board there a sticky I do believe on the Magic Express there.

"Participating Airlines" do not come into play for us Canadians. This is strictly for final destinations in the U.S. when departing WDW. Even if you are flying a participating airline and connecting within the U.S., you cannot use the resort check-in if your ultimate destination is Canada (or any other country).

As well, your airline does not matter when heading into the U.S. The only determining factor is, as mentioned, if you are able to pre-clear customs. Everyone, regardless of airline, can use DME, the only thing to understand is if you don't pre-clear U.S. customs in Canada, you'll obviously have to pick up your bags in Orlando to clear customs there.

Don't forget that same rules about the "Participating Airlines" also applies to Americans when flying home from Orlando. If their Airline is not one of them they also can not check-in for their flight at where they are staying at it needs to be done at Orlando International Airport.

Well, yes, of course. That's implied in the name "participating airline". :)

The "participating airline" program refers to resort check-in for your flight from Orlando, not DME.

We will visiting my sister in Montreal first and then Montreal to Orlando, no stop. Same thing on the return. With Air Canada.

Montreal (YUL) does have pre-clearance for US Customs. Therefore, you will be able to use the yellow DME tags. When you get off the tram in Orlando (MCO), go to the "B" side (B for Bus is how I remember :) ) and all the way down for the Magical Express check-in.

Your sister is very sweet. I hope you enjoy your trip!!
