I'm second guessing my decision to change our previously booked verandah room to a deluxe ocean view on deck 2 for our upcoming cruise on the Magic. I did this to be next door to one of my daughters friends from her gymnastics team. The girls are inseparable when we travel for meets and my daughter has no idea her friend is going on this cruise. All sounds good except I have never cruised without a verandah. Well, there was that once, but I digress....will I hate a deck 2 porthole view???

Deck 2 is all we've every done on both the Magic and Wonder. We will continue to book the same. I have some pictures of our rooms, but I can't post now, I'll have to get back to you.

I just had a deck 2 porthole! Sorry I don't have pics...BUT...last year we had a verandah, and we really missed it this time, even with the porthole. We said we have to have verandah from here on out :)

If you PM me your email address, I can send you some pictures (sorry - don't know how to post pictures here).

Thank you, Jodie!

So the water level is just right there! We're usually up on 7 or 8, so maybe this will end up being cool in a different kind of way.

Anyone have comments to add about their deck 2 experience? Good or bad........

Is it possible to upgrade to a verandah after the cruise is underway, assuming of course that a veranada is available?

We loved Deck 2. It was quiet, loved the "sea view," and the elevator was always empty when we called it... unlike being on Deck 6 - by the time it gets there, it's hit or miss if there will actually be space for you to get on.

I think you would have to ask for an upgrade at the port when you check-in. The only negative on deck 2 (and I think it depends on your specific location), is that sometimes you feel a bit of a vibration when you pull into port. This might be just from the rear of the ship though. I'd check the report for your specific stateroom.

We have always stayed on deck 2, oceanview, on the Magic/Wonder and loved it. We are not a "must have a verandah" family though. If you think you will not enjoy your cruise, book the verandah & the kids will find each other. We have cruised with others being very separated and have had connecting rooms. Either way we have a great time! Wave phones make it easy to stay in touch.

Here are a couple of porthole pictures, Wonder room 2560 from my January '06 cruise. When I cruise with my family we always have a balcony, but this was a bff budget cruise (upgraded at the port). Didn't mind the porthole at all actually, and found deck 2 very convenient.

Deck 2 is awesome....it is a great area...convenient to most things onboard....the pool deck is only an elevator ride away.

Here is a pic our Deck 2 cabins. We have stayed on Deck 2 several times and have also sailed in verandahs....it does not bother me to have just an ocean view without the verandah.

I've done the transAtlantic and now Hawaii in a Deck 2 oceanview and loved it! (Heck, I've done Panama Canal and Alaska in an inside cabin and still loved it :lmao:)

Deck 2 is very convenient for port days also...no waiting around for elevators when everone is trying to get back on the ship...you are never more than one flight of stairs from your room.

I enjoy having a verandah when circumstances ($) allow, but I'm becoming very fond of the convenience of the lower decks!

We've stayed on deck 2 in an oceanview room several times and loved it. I didn't feel like the water was "right there". We did see flying fish that we never would have seen from our deck 9 room though.

In the picture below, you can see how far above the water you will be. Deck 3 portholes are just below the yellow line and obviously deck 2 is just below that. Sorry the picture is so big.

Thanks for the pics and comments! I already feel much better about this. I looked at the reviews for our stateroom (2118) and everyone seems to love the location right across from the aft elevators. I honestly don't know why I was worrying about giving up the verandah. I could have a fabulous time on a Disney cruise if I had nothing more than a deck chair for the entire week. Sipping coffee in my nightie and watching the sunrise is great, but I can still do the same thing.....just peeking out of my big, deck 2 porthole. :)

I have read many favorable reviews about deck 2. When I was on my cruise and walking by the windows on deck 3 I looked out and I liked how close the water was. I am considering deck 2 next time just for the different experience.

I hope you have a great cruise.

OOOOOOOOoooo! We LOVE 2118!! We've had it twice and it's opposite, 2618. People say it's a negative to be so close to an elevator lobby but it's really not noisy and super convenient. :cloud9:

We stayed in 2616 this past March and absolutely loved it so much! The location was perfect and we didn't find it noisy at all. We loved it so much that we book room 2118 (the one you got) for our Med cruise next year.
You are going to love it.

I have this room booked for next years med cruise. :) So, any pictures would be great on your return.

Have a fabulous time.:)

I am on the 1st June cruise, so will look after it for you. :thumbsup2

Have always had deck 2 porthole, love it everytime. Just want to point out that deck 4 is two short flights up. You might want to change from your nightie, but take your coffee up and hang out on a cushioned deck chair.
