Magic Christmas Cruise 2010 (Dec 18th - 29th) - PART II

For those of us looking for an upgrade on our/your GTY cabin, Disney just let me know that the ship is about 85% full as of today.... soooo.....not sure what that could/should/would mean, but it is info. Extrapolate as you wish! :tiptoe:

As of right now there are cabins in all catagory levels except concierge suites. The only problem I see with Disney giving upgrades to fill the ship is that there are still Cat. 12 open! Usually these fill up first. We'll see! I really think we might see another price drop once final payments are in...if you have any friends or family thinking about going!

Ugh... that would be nice... although... thats a double edged sword. Im sure if we get a suite we will be spoiled and never want anything else. :upsidedow

CrusinLattas - I fwd the PM to Amy.... Thx

We really like cruising in connecting cabins, and I don't think there's ever going to be a good enough deal on a suite that would make us consider it.

We will ask at the port if there are any connecting verandahs available. If there are, we may take it (unless we can't rent our house - anyone need a place in the Washington DC area for the next year?).

:wave2: That would be us! I keep watching and hoping for something to push me off the fence and go ahead and book it!

I am so serious in fact that I even bought some stuff for FE gifts if we go :rotfl: I figure if I can't use them on this trip, I will save them for another (but I really hope to go on this trip ;) )

We understand that sword all too well! Last year we did the one bedroom suite and it was WONDERFUL - still paying for it...smile. We originally booked this one as an inside room....and had to upgrade at least to a portal - 11 nights in a little room with no view was too big a change! Before they dropped the price on this cruise it was like booking the suites! Thanks for forwarding info to Amy!

Just jump over to the "dark side". It is going to be the merriest cruise EVER! My daughter always struggles in math so I can hire you for your tutoring services on the cruise so you can write it off as a business expense and make some extra cash. LOL
Seriously, it would be great to have you aboard. I hope it works out for you.

Oh, my Gosh! I am off the boards a few weeks, and our thread blows up. That is fabulous. I have been so busy getting my school up and running for the start of school that I am too tired to go on the computer when I get home. I will try to catch up on our thread this weekend.

It is a wonderful feeling having the crusie paid off. Now, it is time to plan, plan, and plan.

Talk to you soon:-)

:yay:My family will also be joining you for the cruise! :yay:

We have actually booked both the 11 day Christmas Cruise & 5 day New Year Cruise! I am so excited I could burst. We did the New Year Cruise last year & loved it!

:ssst: At this moment our children do not know about the trip. We are still trying to figure out how we are going to tell them... that we are not going to Grandma and Papa's this year for Christmas... we are going on a cruise. My DD (10) is going to be very sad :sad1: or very mad . I am hoping that someday she will forgive us ;), for taking her on a cruise for the holidays.

My Family is:
Me--Disneycruising
DH--
DD--17
DS--15
DS--12
DD--11 (her birthday is a few days before the trip)
Cabins-- 2 cat 12 GTY

Are there any scuba divers going???? My DH, DS15, DS12 and DD11 just got certified this summer and they want to do some diving. Since the disney excursions are limited to ages 12+ they are looking at private options. Anyone else interested?

No divers here, sorry. But we surprised our kids with a cruise this summer to the Baltic. I think I had more fun with it than they did at the time, but now they can't stop talking about how we broke the news.

We had to take them out of school several days early. So I conspired with five of their teachers to put together a scavenger hunt that integrated what they had learned throughout the year with stuff we would see or experience on the cruise. For example, they had had units on art and explorers. So they had to answer a question about the Vikings exploration of North America and identify the name of "The Scream". One DD had done a unit on earth science, so had to tell her teacher how glaciers formed the fjords. The other had done a unit on forces like gravity, etc. so had to tell her teacher how boats float.

At the end, the last clue told them to say good bye to their teachers because they would be traveling that night. When they got home there was a big sign on the door that said we were going on a Disney cruise!

I had fun putting all the clues together and surprising the kids.

Regardless of how you surprise them, let us know! I love to live vicariously! ;)

Hi disneycruisin! :wave2: So glad you'll be along :flower3: and how exciting for the secret :ssst:

3PrincessMommy - what a great way to tell your kiddos about the trip! :thumbsup2:goodvibes

Last Dec was the first holiday without my Dad (and it was odd) and this holiday is the first without my husband's father. We miss them so much and just don't want to travel back 4 states to where siblings and cousins are for the holidays. If we are going to stay in a hotel let it be Disney. Husband, the never-been-on-a-cruise-guy, came up with this cruise idea :hug:

Just looking at the available cabins, 85% seems really high to me. But that doesn't account for how many GTY cabins they may have sold.

So, let's do an informal survey with our group! How many of you have a GTY? We have a Cat 12 GTY. I see disneycruising has 2 Cat 12 Gtys. How about the rest of you? Anyone else going to be anxiously checking for a cabin assignment in November?

Happy Saturday!
Leslie

Hi Leslie -

Booked through expedia and I don't think GTY was an option. :confused3 We are in a Cat 7 (Nav).:santa:

Getting really excited for Martinique. I read somewhere that they celebrate Christmas the entire month of December :goodvibes

I have a GTY and so do our friends. I was originally booked in another cabin but going the GTY route saved us lots of $$$. We now have cruise, airfare, transfers and insurance for less than what we were paying for just for the cruise. Keeping my fingers cross for a port hole. If not, we barely spend anytime in our room except to sleep.

We've been on previous cruises so I hear the Castaway members get priority over room assignments. Might just be rumor but I'll take my chances.

We, too, were originally booked in specific cabins. When I saw the Cat 12's pop up as available we grabbed three of them and saved ourselves a boatload (no pun intended :rotfl2:) of $$$!

Do you really think it'll be Nov. before we find out our cabin assignments? We booked 2 Cat 12's for our Western last October and our room assignments came through in early August. For that cruise, we were pleased with the connecting Cat 10's on deck 7 that we ended up being assigned. I'm hoping for something similar (better would work, too ;)) this time.

I hope it's sooner than later. I'll keep my fingers crossed for everyone. It would be awesome if we all got upgraded. It would be a wonderful early xmas present!

We booked a Cat 12 last year for our Christmas cruise. It sailed on 12/19 and there were a bunch of us on our Meet thread who were anxiously awaiting our Cat 12 assignments. On 10/27, a bunch of people got calls from DCL offering Cat 9s for $150. But there were also a lot of disappointed people on the thread who didn't get the call. Then on 11/5, cabin assignments were posted. So, hopefully we won't have to wait long into November!!

As our sailing gets closer, we can start watching the Cat 12 assignments thread to see what sailing dates are getting assigned so we'll know when to start looking. It sounds like there will be a lot of us checking!!

Welcome aboard.. Our DS will turn 11 on the first day of the cruise..

What is a GTY??? DW & I are both stumped on that one.. :surfweb::confused3
GTY = guarantee cabin category... E.g., you can't get any worse than the category that you paid for, but could end up in a Cat 6 after paying for a Cat 11. A gamble, but one that may pay off!

Just dropping in to say "hello". We are back from the Baltic Sea and are in full swing for this cruise. We have made our final payment and booked our shore excursions. Now it seems real and the time will go fast.

See Ya Real Soon.

:goodvibes Thank for the warm welcome.

Is there some where on the thread with a list of who is going? It would be nice to see who everyone is.;)

We made our final payment, so we could book or Palo Brunch & dinner. I can't wait for my chocolate souffle.;)

Now I need to quickly make some decision on our excursions. Does anyone one have any recommendations on excurisons? I am considering:

Barbados:

4x4 Adventure and Monkey Encounter
Turtle Shipwreck & Snorkel Adventure

St. Thomas/St. John:

Full Day Caribbean Sail & Snorkel to Turtle Cove & Honeymoon Beach
St. John Barefoot Sail and Snorkel
Certified Scuba in St. Thomas
Buck Island Catamaran Sail and Snorkel

Guadeloupe:

Beach by Motorboat Shuttle
Certified Scuba Dive at Cousteau Reserve

Martinique:

So far I don't find anything that I want to do.

St Maarten:
My DH is looking into doing a private scuba dive for him and the 3 youngest kids.
