Just received my docs for 7 night Eastern on 15th October....In the pack is a letter stating that the Fitness Centre will be unavailable due to upgrading during the cruise. Most of the equipment from the centre will be located elsewhere temporarily but does this mean some other facility will be unavailable to fact that the equipment will be in there ? As this cruise is the first after dry dock I wonder what other changes will have been made.

Hope this helps:

2005 Drydock Plans
The Disney Magic will be in drydock October 1-14, 2005. During the 14-night Westbound Panama Canal cruise (May 14-28, 2005), Tom McAlpin, President of Disney Cruise Line, gave a presentation to passengers and mentioned that the following changes will be made to the Magic during drydock this fall:

A Jumbotron screen will be added on one of the stacks so that Disney can offer movie nights at the pool and multimedia presentations during deck parties.
The fitness room will be expanded by extending the floor out over the bridge, which will double the room for workout equipment.
Part of the Spa will be reworked to create more couples treatment rooms.
The conference rooms will be transformed into a kids' space with an interactive "bridge" that allows kids to pretend they are sailing and docking a cruise ship.
Also, Castaway Cay will be getting a "swim with stingrays" program that is expected to open in Fall 2005.

I kind of liked the view of the bridge from the treadmills in the fitness centre, and I suppose that will go away with the expansion--oh well, next time I'll work a bridge tour into my schedule if I really care, and more room in the fitness center will benefit many folks.

You have certainly received your documents nice and early. Hope we do also as we need them before we leave England.

Shame the fitness centre is not open during your cruise and certainly hope it will be for ours on the 22nd.Have booked a one to one session for my daughter as a surprise and we all plan to use the facilities.

Any date given for it to be open or is it just for your cruise only perhaps.

We just took the bridge tour on the repo last week and and Ian was saying that after drydock the tour view will certainly look different becuase of all the spa changes...I will post my pics later...I got some nice ones from the catwalk over the bridge from the tour....

Some other changes mentioned by Tom McAlpin, President of DCL when he was onboard last week was that they are expanding Scoops to have more healthy options (don't worry...ice cream will still be there) but they are adding a deli with fresh sandwiches, fresh fruit, etc......and Pinocchios Pizza is going to be redone so that you can see the pizza baking process from the outside....

Yaaa doc's dance. I leave on the 29th of October...maybe I will get mine soon.

have a great time....

Hmmm....not sure if this is good or bad. I like that they are making these changes, but I hope that they are done by the time we get on the ship. My DH uses the fitness room every day on vacation. I need more info on whether or not it will still be functioning even if it is located somewhere else temporarily.

There's been a show on the Travel channel for several weeks about a cruise ship in dry dock. They followed the progress of the renovations and it wasn't pretty. I hope the Magic isn't in as bad shape as this ship was at the end.

the drydock shown on the travel channel was a lot more extensive than what the Magic or Wonder go through when they are in drydock.

Yay for more fitness equipment! Great way to work off all the extra calories I am going eat while on the ship! Dh and I get to wrok out together for a change- what a treat!
