Magic Bands?

We go later this month but I've heard you can use them to open your room door and charge to the room. Hopefully someone who has gone recently can confirm!

We haven’t gone in about a year, but at that time a couple of kiosks didn’t have the updated readers yet, so they needed a room key. I would hope by now that’s resolved.

Everything worked last month and all the cast members knew what to do as well. The app even has a section now that says "MagicBands at Aulani," so it's a little more official than it's been in the past. There still aren't any for sale.

We were there last week and had MagicBand+. They opened the door, the parking garage gate and we were able to use them to charge stuff to our account at all outlets... many places actually preferred it when we used our bands. PhotoPass did NOT use MagicBands.

Interestingly, the bands lighted up with haptic responses when in the lobby area, or near it and also near one of the DVC demo room.

We were there for a week last May. We used Magic Bands to park, open doors, charge to the room. Just as you would at WDW.

Can anyone who has been there recently confirm where Magic Bands are working, and if it matters if they are MB or MB+?
The times we've been there years ago they worked to open doors. Now I am looking for if they can be used for:
- Bracelet check in at the pool in the morning
- Charging to the room at various restaurants
- Photopass

Thanks!

Not sure about photo pass, since we don’t use it, but yes to everything else. Both MB and MB+ work.

All touchpoints (i.e. you tap your band to something) work with:
  • MagicBand 1
  • MagicBand 2, regardless of how old the battery is
  • MagicBand+, regardless of whether the battery is charged or not
Long-range features require:
  • MagicBand 2 with a live battery (batteries have roughly a 2-year shelf life)
  • MagicBand+ with a charged battery
Enhanced features that require MagicBand+ include:
  • 50th Anniversary statue scavenger hunt
  • Bounty hunter game in Galaxy's Edge
  • Lighting up during shows and in some attractions
  • Disney Cruise Line
Of the things you mentioned, PhotoPass is the only one that might be an issue (kind of). When you tap your band with a photographer, any band will work. Some ride photos automatically link to your account by scanning your band from a distance while you're on the ride. This requires a band with a functional battery, but it can be either a MagicBand 2 that isn't super old or a charged MagicBand+. You can also enable certain permissions where your phone will do the linking over Bluetooth even if you don't have a band. There are QR code instructions on how to set this up in certain attraction queues.

The question in particular was asking about magic band use at Aulani. Seems like this response is copied from another thread, or perhaps you misunderstood the question?

Well geez I bought a Magic Band+ since I assumed I needed it. My old Magic Band would have worked at Aulani?

So what is the latest? Do Magic bands work for anything in Aulani? Should we bring them?
I’m at Aulani right now and I used my band to open the door of my room, get my pool wrist bands and charge our character breakfast (had to physically remove my band for this one). I love the band at Aulani because I’m the type to misplace my room key
