I have a couple of magic bands already and decided to decline the bands on our upcoming trip. I can't see spending $20/$25 for a new band. How does Disney know which band I would like to use if I don't purchase a new one. Thanks.

The only thing that might not work, depending on how old your bands are, is the long-range scanning. This is mainly used for on-ride photos and things like at the end of Small World where sometimes you'll see your name on one of the "goodbye" signs. These things require the band to have a functional battery. Battery life is usually around 2 years.

MagicBands are attached to your account, not any particular stay. So any MagicBand you have can be used on any trip.

However, having too many active MagicBands on your account can apparently cause problems, according to Disney. I don't know how many is "too many," but people have reported issues of MagicBands not working and being told by Disney they had too many active at the same time.

Disney advises that you deactivate bands that you no longer plan to use. If you change your mind later, you can always reactivate a band.

I think the number is very high. I had about 20 on my account and when I ran into some issues and asked the IT people if that was the reason, they said I wasn't even close to the numbers that cause problems.

Thanks, our newest bands was purchased this pass summer so they're still pretty new.

So the magic band my DD used on our last trip will still be good for this trip and I don't have to link it to this trip somehow?

Although you order MagicBands for a specific room reservation, they are not linked to just that reservation. Any MagicBand listed on the "MagicBands and Cards" page of MDE can be used for any upcoming visit to WDW. The only thing you need to do is ensure that the MagicBand is marked as Active.

Ok thank you. It's kind of confusing because when I go on MDE it says there are no magic bands attached to my reservations.

MB are not attached to any reservation. They are attached to the person.

Each new reservation when it’s added is set up to allow for the purchase of additional MBs but it doesn’t make them part of that trip.

I don’t order MBs anymore for any of my trips.

Thank you. I appreciate it. This is our third time using them but the first time was over 7 years ago so we had to get new ones for our trip last spring. So I wasn't real sure on how it worked when you used them again. I appreciate the help.

The only issue I have ever had with MBs was at Beach Club. When we checked in, only one band was assigned per person to work at the hotel. I think it was to try and keep a handle on the pool use.
When I went to use another MB (I like to change colour with my outfit), it didn't work. I had to go to the front desk to have them make them work on our room. They were not really happy about it, but I made them do it.

What that note really means is that you haven't taken advantage of the opportunity to order new MBs at the discount that you're eligible for due to the resort reservation. It has nothing to do with what MBs may be active and able to be used for that trip, it's just something trying to get you to buy new MBs.

Oh ok. Thank you.

weird question for all about an older magic band.... I've got the 2 magic bands from our covid cancelled 2020 trip ( thanks Covid) which were sent to us about Dec 2019 ( I think) . Would these still work for our trip this Sept ( 2022) ? they have never been used, and it would be nice to not have to buy them, if I can help it.....

As long as they appear on the "MagicBands and Cards" page of MDE and are marked as "Active", you can use them for any upcoming trip.

And if they’re marked as “inactive,” a click will make them active again.
I'm not even seeing them on when I log into our account. I did see where i can add in the number though. If I do that , it should then tie to our reservation, is that right ? ( assuming I first add it then mark it active ? ) I appreciate your help with this so much !!!

MBs don’t actually tie to a reservation. They attach to you in your MDE account and will work as long as you have them there!!
