Magic Bands?

I'm sorry if this is an obvious question, but we haven't been in 3 years, so MagicBands and FP+ are totally new to us! We just made a reservation for May with a package (room + park passes), and when I made the reservation online, I didn't get any info about MagicBands. Will the bands be automatically shipped to our house before the trip? Will they get here before our 60-day window so that we'll have them in time to make FP+ reservations? Do I get to choose the colors somehow? I am pretty clueless over here!! TIA.

You don't need Magic Bands to make FP+ reservations - you only need tickets. I haven't gone since Magic Bands were introduced, but it's my understanding that you should get some information (maybe an e-mail?) about customizing Magic Bands, which is how you select colors.

On your MDE account, it will give you the option under, I think, Manage Magic Bands/Passes, and from there you can customize them. You have until 30 days before your trip to customize, otherwise you will get gray. You don't need the bands to make your fast pass selections.

You'll get an email when it's time to customize them with a link to MDE you can do it any time after you get that email. Just allow enough time for them to ship them to you.

I have our magic bands from a previous trip. Are they transferable? My daughter had a pink one last time, but I bought her an Elsa magic band and I'd like to assign the pink one to my other child. Is that possible?

Edit: I am staying off site this time, so I think I will not automatically get new magic bands.

I'm not sure they may be since you can buy them to start with. I'd try deactivating them from daughter #1 and see if you can enter them manually for daughter #2 or call and see if the can do it for you.

Thanks! I just realized my younger daughter doesn't need one anyway because she is under 2. Her magic band would be just for show anyway.

She may want to wear one like big sister though, so there's no reason she can't wear big sister's old one, since it doesn't need to do anything anyway.

You can go into MDE and customize (choose colors) your magic bands whenever you have a reservation in your MDE, so you can do it now. They will give you a date that is the cutoff for customizing, usually 30 days before checkin. They will ship them to you a few days after that, so make sure they have the correct mailing address for you.

As others have said, magic bands have nothing to do with fastpasses, it's all about tickets. Magic bands have nothing on them, they are just a link to your MDE account.

It is not based on when you customize them, it is based on when your trip is.

Your MDE will show a date that is the latest you can customize bands, typically 30 days before your checkin. The bands will be shipped a few days after that. Most people receive them 20-25 days before their trip.
