We were just able to personalize our magic bands. Yay! My question is- do we still need to carry a photo ID and our DVC card to get the discounts at restaurants and shopping? Do the magic bands have our DVC info on them? Thanks

Janie

As of now you still need to carry everything else: DVC, ID, AP, TIW. I hope that at some point all of this info will be linked to the Magic Bands.

In addition, you will probably be issued a legacy KTTW room key to accompany your MagicBand. Some establishments at WDW don't have the point-of-sale machines yet that work with the MagicBands, so you have to use the old KTTW card if you want to do a room charge.

Yesterday, we bought a Tables in Wonderland card at Guest Relations at Disney's Hollywood Studios. We had to use the legacy KTTW room key in order to charge the purchase to our room. I also had to show them my DVC membership card and my driver's license in order to purchase the TiW card.

For everything else -- room, food purchases, souvenirs, even accessing the parking gate at the resort -- we've been able to use our MagicBands. Personally, I like using the MagicBands.

No discounts. And a CM fussed at me for daring to assume the Tragic Band would actually open a door

Carry everything.

I'm really not sure why you hate the bands so much. We just returned from a 5-night, split stay and had no problems with them. We each have four bands and they all worked for everything (room/park entry, FP+s, meal/merchandise purchases, etc.) during both stays. We thought the bands were wonderful.

Ditto. Not a split stay, but we were at BWV last weekend & the Magic Bands worked flawlessly. Even with our old 10 day non-expiring tickets.

I'd say because when they don't work it's a real pain. And Disney is using us for free testing and costing vacation time. :sad2: Be glad yours worked without a problem.

You are fortunate that all went well with your bands. I'm happy that they worked for you, and I do realize this is all in testing phase. However, we had lots of trouble with ours a few weeks ago at BWV.

DS and DH have the same name, differentiated by a suffix. Both were on separate reservations and were not listed as the lead name. The front desk could not get DS's band to work--it would automatically change to DH's name, room, and PIN for charging. DS got three new bands, each did the same. He finally gave up, after spending hours at the desk on three different occasions.

And now, for January, the DVC site shows DS on his own reservation, DH on a different reservation (with me), and DSiL on yet another reservation. All good.

BUT--MDE shows DS on MY reservation, with DSil's MB. I spoke with IT, and they could not do anything, so they sent an email regarding this to MS to fix. This was 8 days ago, and MDE is still wrong.

I'm not sure what we'll have in January. :confused3

In addition, my MB did not work at the park entrances. It was nothing but a key for my door; thankfully that worked.

I am sorry that you had so many issues. But...there are far more positive reviews than negative at this point. Yes, I do understand that some have had problems but, on the whole, they are working well.

I just think it is a mistake to trash an entire program because you had issues. For example...we stayed at Art of Animation for two nights last year. They messed up our Magical Express reservation, lost a camera bag and we had issues with our room keys. Even with all of that I would never trash the whole resort. They were in their opening phase and I understand that issue can happen. The same is true for MagicBands. I don't think we are fortunate that they worked...I think that you are unfortunate that they didn't. On our trip last week we saw no long lines at Guest Relations, heard no complaints from other guests about the bands and had no delays at any point because of band malfunctions (either ours or others').

Again, I am sorry that you had issues. I know that losing vacation time is never fun.

had the bands on our last trip and never had an issue with them. I did not know about them ahead of time but they explained them were easy to do for fast passes, and we never ran into a place we couldn't use them.

MDE told me to contact them directly when there are problems. 866-599-0951

We really liked the bands - when they worked - especially for going to water parks and the pool and not having to cart around a room key - I look forward to them being out of the testing phase, because we literally spent a total of three hours of our vacation time at the front desk of OKW either fixing issues with opening the door, fastpasses, and changing to another reservation (points versus cash). We had to totally ditch our personalized ones for the second part of our stay, but at least they were able to give us ones that were the same color - as DH said, technology is wonderful, when it works!

We have the bands for all 10 of us and we leave in a couple of weeks. I have not had any real issues with putting and linking our stuff with them using the online site and our phone app except for one. The one issue I had was getting our FastPass+ tickets. Maybe it is due to such a large group but when I would go and try and get Fastpass+ for a park it gives you several options and a best option to choose from. I would pick one based on the times and it would almost always come back and state 7 were selected and would randomly drop 3 from the list. I would try a different time option and it might again randomly select 8 and drop 2. If you were not careful you would not notice this as it was over to the right of the screen and not explained very well. I got smart after several attempts and would simple hit the back key and try the same selection again, several times it would again randomly select so many then drop the rest but it would eventfully take all ten of us and I would then confirm this and all was fine from that point on. This was a real pain and I think there were others in the system and had these FastPass+ slots tied up temporarily and I just had to keep trying. Anyway looking forward to using them and will let all know how it went when I get back..smjj

Day 1 was a MESS! Days 2 and 3 were great with the bands. We're just worried day 1 will be a mess when we return with 2 daughters and vouchers for AP who aren't in room, and 2 nieces without tickets in our room when we come back in 2 weeks. I don't envision it going smoothly...

Glad hear that they work for most, but they did not work for us. Day one would not let us into the room, buy anything, gates for parking..nothing worked. All we heard was put Mickey Head to Mickey Head.....and....Nothing. Sales people had not clue, nor did the front desk. Staying at VGF...Front desk said they needed to be relinked, reprogrammed, reset, and then Mickey Head to Mickey Head at the desk...and nothing...So that took 4 hours of day one...Now day 2....still only working sometimes. Not saying they are bad, just saying they do not work for us..Would love to have waited until they really worked.

what are the bands made of, plastic? :confused3 are they comfortable to wear? are they easy to put on and take off?;) i find the idea very interesting::yes:: and can't wait to find out if i will be a lucky or unlucky wearer.

i hope it works well pixiedust: because i don't want to spend too much of my vacation time at the dest. only at the parks and with my family and friends.

They are made of a soft rubber. I find mine incredibly comfortable and often forget I am wearing it. They are very easy to put on and take off...plus, they are waterproof so you can swim/shower with them on.

Ours worked perfectly last week.

I found mine felt like wearing a bulky Timex watch. So much so that I kept checking the time on it without much luck!

I checked it like a watch, too! In fact we joked that Disney should add a blinged-out Mickey waterproof watch accessory to slip on the MB - it would be a big seller!
