Magic bands with a split stay...can they be combined?

It looks like we will have 2 different sets of Magic bands according to our MDE account. I want to customize our MBs, but as there are 9 of us, I won't have the time or inclination to decorate all 18 of them! Once we hit the 2nd check-in time, can they combine the info for the 2nd part of our stay onto our first set of MBs so we can just wear one set the whole trip?

Magic Bands simply act as an electronic "key" to unlock the information in your My Disney Experience account. You will be able to use any bands that are active on your account. HOWEVER, make sure that you were fully checked out of your first resort as if they do not, there may (and most likely will) be an issue using the bands to charge and/or open doors at the second resort.

Yup, I actually had a 3-way split, so 3 sets of MBs. Well, the first time I switched, I forgot to change to my "new" MB, so I tried the old one and it worked. Tried again on my next switch, and it still worked. So I came home with two, brand new, never used Magic Bands.

It may let you decline the 2nd set once you've customized the first set if you don't want to take them/deal with them. Like I said it all SHOULD work. We had a three-way split stay and our bands all worked once they got out check-out issue straightened out. When we left SSR, they didn't check us out properly and we couldn't use our bands to open the door at Kidani Village and we couldn't charge in the park. Luckily we were able to get it fixed at MK Guest Relations.
 
I often do split stays and always just use one magic band, as a matter of fact I declined both on my last trip since I already have two of every color and 3 of two colors since I have APs and you get a band with those. As as been noted, make sure you check out of resort #1, I just get up early and get packed go down to the front desk and check out then head over to resort #2 and check in, all before 8 am. (I drive) Just check MDE and make sure the number on the band is the number listed there and you are good to go.

We changed to a split stay to take advantage of Stay, Play, & Dine which starts 2 nights into our 7 night trip. I'll go to the front desk and make sure everything is straightened out before we head into the parks that day. Thanks again for the answers/advice! :)

In regards to going to the front desk - to make sure you're "checked out" ask for the final folio from your stay. We went to the front desk at SSR and the guy said he checked out out, but at 6:00 in the morning he must not have been interested in making sure it was done properly, as he did not check us out. I think back to it and had I asked for the final folio, it probably would have made sure we were properly checked out.
