Basic ones are now $10.. I
Didn’t order at $5 in case we didn’t make it in Dec . It says preorder and regular price 19.99 so maybe if anyone wants one get them now ?? Yikes that’s another $50 for us

Oh darn it! I was happy to see they were only $5.

I don't think the old ones work for the photopass system or something like that. I read something about their limits after so many years. Of course I can't remember where I saw that info. Maybe on the Tickets and Magic Bands thread?

It's the long range RFID that will fail after awhile, so mostly for on-ride photos where you can't tap at the end of the ride (SDD, Haunted Mansion, etc.) or at the end of It's A Small World where they show your names.

For everything else : tapping into parks, tapping ride photos like EE, photopass photographers, old bands work well.

We might buy just one new MB for the long-range RFID, since it can detect pictures for the whole family. We won't need 4 new bands.

Yes! That's it. I just found it on a different thread.

Ours are from 2018 and going this December. So they should be okay for mobile ordering, entry, "FP" (if it comes back)?

Yes they should be okay.

Dunno how to link to other threads ;) Just look up the Magic Mobile vs Magic Band thread where they confirm this.

Since we haven't been in awhile I wonder if ours will work well enough when we are able to go. I was liking the new colours, so pretty! I am considering an early 2022 trip now. I just can't wait to travel and am planning too many trips :D

We have tons of old MBs but I’m actually looking forward to getting some cute new bands for our next trip! Our old bands all have this powdery film on them, maybe from wearing them while swimming.

How long do they normally last? (The long range) We got bands last year for our trip we didn't go on. Wonder if I need new ones now.

They're also giving out free Key to the World cards (MBs in card form but in run away railroad dress :-)) to on-site guests if you're really concerned.

The long range should last at least 2 years, maybe squeeze out 3 years but after 2 years it’s iffy.

Glad we ordered 8 months early. Who knew they’d double the price? We really don’t need them anymore but I bought Pink Blush MB and will try accenting it like the castle with gold and sapphire.

Free for now.. lol it is Disney.. if theres a way to charge its prob coming :)

Guaranteed :) It's what they do.

You can also use any NFC enabled device you might have via the MDE app - I think that's the real play here. Everyone is on their phones all the time anyways, so it's just another way to get you to open the app.

Agreed but my two littles will not have phones and if fastpasses come back magic bands would be easiest imo for parents of littles and preteens

You can keep multiple 'passes' apparently on the app, but you're right magic bands are likely far easier for small children (and people without phones/smart watches/etc). I suspect Disney is more than aware of this (hence the free cards or for purchase magic bands) but getting you to open the MDE app more often is seen as more profitable for them.

I actually support the no free magic bands - we literally have dozens of the things floating around the house, and it's nice to know we won't be creating more e-waste on future trips. You were supposed to be able to decline them, but every trip they had new ones made up anyways. It's a bit of a drag for those who don't go as often, but $10/head on the top of a Disney trip is a rounding error if you want/need them I guess?

The big kids often split off sometimes with the littles so just easier if everyone has their own method of hmm data storage on them ..
And I agree I have a lot floating around too but since I can’t test them from here..
And yes $10 a head x 5 plus taxes plus exchange it’s a small add-on , but lately all the new add-one are adding up and on one income it’s a lot .

I hate the way they are headed, doing everything with your phone. The selection of MBs are diminishing and some people think they are phasing them out. They are just so easy to use, and I love collecting them. They are such a money-maker for Disney that I can't imagine why they would phase them out. For the price we pay to stay on-site, the nickel-and-diming is starting to get annoying. Don't even get me started on the topic of the Magical Express.
