Magic Bands Question

We have our Magic Bands from last year that are still "active" along with Magic Bands from the year before that are also "active." For our upcoming trip, do we just bring a set or do we need to link them with our room reservation somehow? We are staying at SSR? Thanks!

If all bands and the room reservation are on the same MDX account, you don’t need to do anything.

If your reservation is linked to the same MDE account,then all the bands will be active for the people they are originally assigned to.​

We use the new bands and make the old bands inactive in our account. That way you are using bands with new batteries.

To clarify this. Magic bands will work indefinitely for most things like entering the park, fastpasses, photopass, etc. Anything where you physically tap the band as the band gets the power from the tap. What wears out is the long-range RFID, which is what is used in some rides. Most rides you can tap at the end to get the pictures, but a few are only able to be retrieved with the long range RFID/newer bands while on the ride. But if that's not important, you can use old bands forever.

No. “Inactive” just means they won’t link to a resort room account and unlock any resort doors. They still function at FP and park entrance touchpoints in the “inactive” mode.

No, and not sure why you would want to, just mark the old ones do you know which is which.
Always throw a set of old ones in the suitcase in case something happens to the newer ones.

I turn them in from time to time to recycle them and remove the old ones from the account. My experience is the more active bands you have the more possible problems. I have way too many bands.

I've seen numerous people report that they were having frequent problems with their magic bands (not working at the park tapstyle, not opening their room door, etc.) and when they went to guest services and the CM looked at their account, they were told to deactivate some of their older bands. Once they did that, their current ones worked fine. It seemed like this only happens if there are dozens of magic bands involved.

Each of our family member has two bands... one from 2016 trip and one from the upcoming trip..... We were initially offered with two sets of band for this trip because of a split stay and I declined one set... hope we won't get into "magic band confusion" during our trip.

Two bands will NOT cause an issue. Most people with issues had more like 20 bands.

You will be fine. We're a family of 6 and we each currently have 5 bands on our account and we had no problems in June.

Other than being to lazy to click on the button (like me). I'm definitely going to deactivate most of the ones on our account before the next trip. I did have an issue with my park admission twice in one day last month. I asked if it was because I had too many MBs on my account. The CM said it wasn't and just took my picture. Of course once she did that (after me holding up the line twice that day) it never happened again the rest of the week.

I use our old magic bands as garland on my Disney Christmas tree! I link them together and string them on the tree. They look so cute!!!

If you have more than 10 bands linked to your account you would probably want to make some of them inactive. It appears that having too many bands on one account confuses the system. Fewer than 10, probably nothing to worry about.

What do the batteries do? I have a Dooney Magic Band from 2-3 years ago.
