Magic Bands and Key to the World Cards

An upcoming trip has a party of 6 adults. Five of the six have magic bands from a couple of years ago. The other party does not, and is an extremely infrequent traveler to wdw.

All passes are linked to MDE. Those of us with magic bands plan to use them for park and room access. I am thinking for the sixth person we may be better off just going to the front desk and obtaining a Key to the world card for them, to use for park admission and room entry.

Does this seem to be a good way to go? Are there any other factors or complications I am overlooking? Can that key to the world card also be given charging privileges by the front desk?

Thanks for any comments and assistance!

That will work fine. No need to buy them a MB

I agree that a KTTW card is the best option.

The only thing the MBs might do that the card won’t is to link ride photos that don’t have tap points at the end. If the MBs are more than 2-3 years old, their batteries might be worn out, and they won’t link photos either. If photos aren’t important it won’t matter, and if they are then allowing MDE accounts to use Bluetooth will link those photos.

I love magicbands and will always advocate for them. For anyone interested in an in-depth debate and poll about this DVCFan posted a video about it recently. I am not sure if you can use the card for charges. I think the only argument against magicbands is the cost but I will note that the last time I purchased a new one (maybe last year?), for the basic, solid color magicband, with my discount for having a resort stay booked it cost only $10. And regarding your friend being an infrequent visitor, these things last many years, assuming you don't care about linking photos and such as the prior reply noted.

If it’s a KTTW card, it’s linked to the Disney resort reservation just the same as a MB and can do anything the MB can do that involves tapping Mickey to Mickey, including charging to the resort account.

Unfortunately, those are no longer available. Even with a resort stay the cost is $20-30.
