Magic Bands and ID

If your wife has her ID in her purse, why doesn't she just carry yours too? And if you separate while in the parks and you think you might need it, take it in your pocket. Doesn't seem like too much to ask, I always take my boyfriends stuff and he'll take mine when needed depending on the circumstances. I personally use a cell phone wallet case for my phone that is a case but has some slots for cards. This way I have all of my important stuff with me at all times and its no inconvenience. I take my phone everywhere, therefore I take all my cards everywhere.

In all seriousness, though. ....
Of course there is always some sort of wild emergency that could arise... Russians invading, tornado touchdown, etc....

Falling and breaking an ankle. Cutting yourself badly and needing to go for stitches. Getting dehydrated, falling, and hitting your head.

In all seriousness, those are the in-betweens that people carry ID and insurance info for.

While this is generally true throughout the States, Disney has it's own policy that differs. It started last year and required a passport as ID for non Americans when purchasing alcohol. The reason was that CMs couldn't always understand the language some DLs were issued in. Not all foreign guests have DLs written in English. But it wasn't universally enforced. Recently I've read reports where they were content with a photocopy of the first page (photo page) of the passport. This was in response to the (IMO reasonable) objection of guests who were very reluctant to carry their passport around with them in the parks and risking losing them.

That's the sequence of events I've read! For me, if I ever go to Tokyo Disney I'll carry my passport with me. So I never really get the reluctance to carry THE international ID, but I do get that some people are reluctant.

Far enough to get back to my hotel room I suppose, which is where my ID would be safely stowed in my safe.

That sounds like a fun couple of hours (and since my family has spectacularly bad luck with transportation at disney, so the reality for us is that would mean the end of the park day after fighting to get back to the room).

I also had an ulterior reason for the question with regard to my excellent 21 year old stepson, whose one shortfall might be misplacing things. I might like to be able to tell him not to bring his wallet to the parks as it could get...

1. Lost
2. Soaked

This carries my ID, insurance card, CC (b/c we generally don't charge to the rooms but even when we do I've had the system fail so I keep a CC with me), DVC card, AP card, and a bit of cash (though it gets crowded when I get change!). Basically waterproof and very convenient. It's what I used pre-MB and it's what I still use.

I'm 44, I still get carded often (and not always in a pitying way, LOL), and I know that if you are asked for ID and don't have it, you're not getting that beer (even if you're 98) because they could get into trouble if they served you.

Answers that go beyond "yes or no" are conversation that happens. There are many other people who read threads beyond the original poster, and the info can be good for them, even if it's annoying to others. Plenty of us have had things happen or know of things that can happen, that are far less than catastrophic, that would make us want to have our IDs.

I carry my ID, my health insurance card and my target card un case we need to stop at the pharmacy or store there.

I just like to be prepared.

Bring ID.
If your Magic Band doesn't scan right, you will be asked for it.
I had to show mine twice last trip.

Driver's Licence has always worked fine for purchasing alcohol in the states. I've never once been asked for my Passport...

I've seen them refuse to sell alcohol without a Passport to guests from out of the country even though they had an ID. Even seen managers called in and still refuse to sell it. They said passports only each time.

The link to that ID carry case is helpful, thanks! As for the other thing. Most of us know about how public forums work. Yes, it gives people free reign to preach. The superfluous advice is often actually quite useful, but I imagine if some people were as preachy in real life as they are on Internet forums they would find themselves in hot water with the people around them. MOST all of the "extra" advice given in this thread has been great.

Sigh. Yes thanks. Of course it is a good idea for SOMEONE to carry ID, Credit Info and Insurance. I never said it wasn't. I am pretty sure I have not seen anyone in this thread who has said that "their entire party should leave their hotel room without ID, Insurance Info or Credit Card Access." As for the going back to the hotel, yes, that's a two hour inconvenience, but my response was really an ill-conceived facetious response to a person who seemed to think I was suggesting leaving my ID in BUFFALO. Pretty. Insane. Really.

And another thought. Lets say your MB fails somehow....yes, it happens. You are asked for ID, but you don't have it with you. Ok, no biggie. You'll just head back to the resort to get it. BUT...your MB doesn't work, now you can't get into your room. Back to the front desk you go...they are going to ask for ID before they allow you into a room.. They may send a CM along with you, to open the door, go into the room with you and then show your ID. Kind of a hassle. I carry very little with me in the parks. What do I carry? My park pass (now MB), my license, a little cash, lip balm, my AP (they ask to see it for any discounts) and a credit card. It all fits in my pocket. Cell phone goes in the other pocket.

In any event, thanks to the original replier (Michael, I believe) for simply answering the question. :)

Sounds like this was the answer you wanted to hear. :)

Yes, the issue of magic bands failing was up above in one of the above posts. THAT for sure was a very good point made and was acknowledged as such! :)
