Sorry if this has been already addressed, but this is something that has confused me for a bit.

Can you "double dip" FP+, and if not, why?

Imagine: Our whole family has the MBs. I make my own FP, and then include my entire family on the ride (selecting them each for said ride, linking the party together.). Now, my mom has her own MD - can she make a selection on her own, and link our family with HER choices? And if not, why? Everyone has their own band, and should be able to make their own 3 ride choices, right? And they should be able to bring their own friends with them, right? So what am I getting wrong here? I'm probably not thinking about this logically, but I would like to know the answer.

In the good ole' days, people could make their own choices, even if it was for only one person (If I wanted to ride ToT, and mom didn't, she could get her own FP for something else.)

Each person listed on MDX must have a valid ticket. The system allows only 3 prebooked FPs per day for that single person, not for that single person and everyone else in the group.

One way our family does "double dip" is to share our Magic Bands. My son loves the "vomit" rides while my daughter loves Fantasyland. So, while my son can only have one fast pass for Space Mountain and my daughter can only have one pass for 7 Dwarfs Mine Train, they can each do their preferred experience and then switch bands and have two fast passes for their favorite ride per day.

At DHS she can ride Toy Story Mania twice with FP and he can Ride Rockin Roller Coaster twice.

Win Win!

That's clever!! Although I still miss the ability to pull FP after FP for the same ride. My son can't ride larger rides, yet the system seems to force attractions that we don't want to ride onto us. We'd love to make 3 FP for triceretops spin, but the FP system forces use to make the fp for Everest, FOTL or Dinosaur. Still haven't figured out how to modify that, and I get pretty upset when CMs at the FP stations tell us things like, "your son will love FOTLK and It's tough to be a Bug". Umm, no, he won't. He wants to ride freakin' flying Tricertops 3+ times in a row or ride the Safari 3+ times. We know that, and want to schedule that. :)

Sigh....

You can do this by changing the experience and choosing the ride you just used an FP for as long it is available.

You can double dip using extra magic bands that aren't linked to your MDX account for same day FPs at kiosks in the parks.

This! Yes and with Safari you can change dino FP on your phone to safari again while you are looking at the animals! Also if it states the SB is 15 minutes dont waste the FP ride SB then use the FP for another time or another ride. We did this a ton of times during thanksgiving and we never even needed a 4th FP!
Monday after thanksgiving we went by BTMR when it opened and there was no wait. Got on rode it. Stayed on the ride (NOBODY WAS WAITING ON THE PLATFORM!?!) Rode it a second time could have done it a third time but decided we'd move on. As I was going to the next thing I changed our afternoon FP for BTMR to SM.

there is a big thread here on manipulating the system using separate MDX accounts to get additional FPs. Actually the FP system is currently working for you the way Disney wants it to...they don't want you to be able to pull 3 FP+ for the same ride.

You can still book different FPs for different guests in your party. No issue with that.

I think you're missing the fact that when you book fastpasses for you and all your family with linked accounts, the fp you make are reflected in everyone else's MDE accounts. So if your mom wants to book her own fastpasses she'd have to cancel the one that you booked for her.

Your mother could change the time or experience of her already booked fastpasses to anything else that is available. Or you could change hers as well. But she cannot book extra ones and copy you to them. the only way to do this is apparently with separate bands linked to separate accounts.
